The Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plains league clinced the West Division 1st half championship last night. The Owls currently own the best record in the CPL @ 20-2. After a double header sweep last night, they can also lay claim to the best start in Coastal Plains history, surpassing Edenton's 18-2 start in 2004.

Couldn't be prouder of these young men. A great mix of DI, II and III that are all contributing and succeeding in the tiny town of Forest City....a place that LOVES their Owls and supports them wholeheartedly.

My son plays for the owls. Coach Merc's does as well. Not sure if any other HSBBWebster's have sons on the team but know many do in the league.

This experience has been so great for my son. He's one of the DIII kids and was thrilled to have a chance to play in the CPL and even happier to be having a great season. Couldn't possibly say anything more about how happy he is with the CPL, the Owls organization and the town of Forest City.

GO OWLS!

Hey Coach Merc - Our sons are roommates in the big city. (I'm mom). We travelled to Martinsville to see tonights game, which the Owls won 2- 0. Just got back home (2:00am and I have to work tomorrow....what was I thinking. Joe stopped by before the game to say hi. What a great young man. Met him for the first time when the team was in the Outer Banks & Edenton. (He also mentioned you and family will be in town for the games weekend of July 17th-18th) We'll be there as well. Looking forward to saying "hi" in person. (I read alot, but seldom post...couldn't resist giving a shout out to these guys for their fantastic start!)

We have a good friend that has played ball with/against my son who is playing for the Owls, Pratt Maynard. He had a very good year for NC State. He had the 2nd highest batting average in the league when I looked at the CPL website a few days ago. How 'bout that brand new stadium?

Pratt launched one over the right field fence last night. Haven't seen the stadium in Forest City...yet. Looking forward to getting there later this summer.

Congrats to all your sons on the Owls who are indeed having a great year!

Coach Merc - we made it up to the Hudson Valley last weekend and it is indeed beautiful up there. They have a very nice stadium as well.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Coach Merc on the phone a few weeks back and it is easy to tell he has a great knowledge and love of the game.

Congratulations to the Forest City Owls and the people of Forest City as the Owls won the Coastal Plains League Championship. What a dream summer for these boys and the folks in Forest City. A record of 51-9 and a 5 game sweep of the playoffs. They should finish the summer as the #1 collegiate ranked summer team. Here are a few links:
I would suggest you watch the video clip and see what a summer team can mean to one of the poorest counties in the country. It's about the joy our boys can bring while doing what they love.
