If a college player is an active member of the team for 1 year, but then becomes academically ineligible the next year and does not play in any games, does the ineligible year count toward the 4 years he can play in 5 years? This is D3.

Of course the assumption is that the player would bring his grades up during the non-eligible year and be eligible the next year. So say he played freshman year, didn't play the next year because of grades, then stayed eligible for the next 3 years and earned all his credits to graduate in 5 years. Could he play in years 3, 4 and 5?

Would any of these make any difference in whether the ineligible season counts: Practicing with the team in the FALL (before he was declared ineligible) / Playing in unofficial FALL scrimmages against another team / Practicing with the team in the SPRING before the date of the first game (before he was declared ineligible).

Any info would be appreciated, thank you!

EnjoyItWhileItLasts...Assuming that your player brings his grades up during the non-eligible year and becomes academically eligible again, he can play in years 3,4 and 5. NCAA D-3 Rule 14.2. He has 10 semesters to play 4 seasons under certain conditions.
