Congrats to your son, that is super! I definitely would like to check out one of your son's games with the Moondogs, so keep me updated! There's at least one other hsbbwebster's son who expects to be playing in the Northwoods League, also.

My son will be playing in the Alaska league with the Kenai Peninsula Oilers...anyone else know if their son will be assigned there? Please post or send me an email if you find out your son will be going there.

just out of curiosity... are most summer assigments made in the fall or are there assignment made in spring also. Also I notice that a number of the websites have contact pages if a player is interested, of course needing the coaches blessing. Is it usual or unusual for players to have to apply for a spot on a team if they are really interested.

I don't know about ratio's but I would venture a guess that more are made in the spring than the fall. Some of the more "experienced" (I won't call them older, 'cause I ain't young myself) posters can probably answer this question.

justamom - I wondered about this too, as many posters said their sons were assigned in the fall. My JUCO son's coach said they don't make assignments in the fall. He said the fall was used for evaluation. Then come spring, assignments were made. They appear to place all of their kids that want to be in a collegiate league, so I guess it works for them. However, I don't know if this is the minority (schools placing in the spring)?

Nearly all the Cape teams will have rosters filled in the Fall and many other leagues and teams strive to do the same. Even when that occurs, many roster spots open in the Spring due to injury, grades, overwork during the college season, and others. If the college coach works hard at it and has good connections, they certainly can get many players placed during the Spring.

Thank you for the answers. I was beginning to worry a little. As a freshman JUCO you are working hard to earn a spot and so I was not sure how it worked. I do understand the cape league is filled in the fall, but after looking through the sites there seems to be a fair amount of leagues for the summer, so I wondered if they all filled in the fall.
Do you know if the players are intersted in any certain league if they should fill the form out on the websites or just take a chance and wait.
I am of the philosophy that you need to consult wiht your coach (by you , I mean the player) and see what his preference is and then go from there. For all you know he may tell you to forget about it or he has something in mind.

Justamom - you're reading my mind! After researching, I have two favorite leagues - the CICL and Valley. However, when I spoke at the beginning of the semester with son's coach, he mentioned another league as a possibility. For us, I think we're going to rely on his experience in the placement, but I'll be checking out the replies here. Where is your son in JUCO at? You can PM if you prefer.
