The NBC is a ton of fun for both the players and fans. If I remember correctly, the first weekend includes baseball around the clock, in which games are played for 24 hours straight. Scouts do show up and even vote for the top pro prospect. The weather can be hot, but the main stadium has covered seating areas. It's a long tourney ...2 weeks I think...but full of teams from all over the country including the Alaskan League. Our son played for the Liberal Bee Jays when they won it in 2000. It's one of his best baseball memories.

Didn’t go last year, but was there two years ago. Great venue in a AA park, lots of scouts at most of the games, evening games well attended. Lots of youngsters asking players for autographs. Some great teams and some teams that IMHO shouldn’t have been there. Taiwan won it all when we were there. Temps were upper 90’s and humid! Around 120 plus on the artificial turf during the day. First week had promotions from various places where you could get daily free tickets to the games. If you plan on being there awhile and going to lots of games, the tournament pass is a good deal. If you’ve got lots of money, there are a couple of nice hotels across the river within walking distance. We stayed at a Days Inn about 5 minutes away (by car) that was more in our budget. As Txmom said, one weekend they do have baseball around the clock. Fortunately we never had to play after 10 pm. If you stay in the winner’s bracket you play about every other day which makes for a lot of off time which can be good and bad.
In short, your son should have a good time.

Just noticed this thread. The tournament was won by Prairie Gravel, a team out of Chicago, that plays in the Suburban Chicago Baseball League. It was a double elimination tourney. Gravel won after losing its first game, by reeling off 9 straight wins. Due to rain they were forced to play a triple-header on the final day. There last two wins were against the Santa Barbara Foresters, who were unbeaten going into the final.
The Suburban Chicago Baseball League is ranked the #1 semi-pro league by the National Semi-Pro Baseball Association. The NBC World Series is also ranked the #1 semi-pro tournament in the country.
Now I would like to take High School Baseball Web liberty and invoke the boasting rule. My son played for the Gravel, starting each of the 10 games played in the tournament, and was selected to the All-Tournament team. Thanks for the boasting forum.
