Greed, it has become the culture at American Universities. Add this to the Athletic Departments, research grants and the foreign students and all you see is another bottom line.

Thanks for that link TPM. I have to agree with deldad, our universities appear to have succumbed to greed, and ideology bows to the almighty dollar. But doesn't it go beyond that? This story seems to be as much about Capitol Hill and Wall Street as it does education. The privatization of student lending is where this story started. Greed has permeated far into American culture, one of the sad by-products of Reaganomics. Frown

spiz, if I knew how to do the roll-your-eyes emoticon, that tripe about Reaganomics being the cause of this would definitely lead me to give you one.

Gimme a break! I don't see what some folks taking kick backs has to do with someone who left office 18 years ago. I could just as easily claim they were following the Clintons' lead, but I won't, because that's no more true than the other.

btw,
"free market economics" (or Reaganomics) is noted for smaller government, less (price) regulation & lower taxes

bribery, corruption & kickbacks, now that would be a congressional (legislative branch) thing Roll Eyes

umm,
that debt is T-bills & Sv bonds sold to mom & pop, corp, banks & international investors -
that's VERY GOOD

the debt size is not particularly significant as the income (economy) plus hard assets of the USA are waaaay waaay bigger than that debt

plus if we need more assests, we can get em the "old fashioned way" ... conquer & steal 'em Roll Eyes

Look Bee, before this digresses any further, we can probably agree that kickbacks for student loans are an unnecessary evil. That's the issue here. The good thing is that Cuomo uncovered this scandal, but do you think it's gonna stop? Scandals like this seem to be happening all the time.

Corporate greed sucks. Anybody here beside deldad agree with that? Roll Eyes

I'm such a newbie, I don't have much pull here, but I agree with you. Smile and on the other stuff as well. You know things are bad when one looks upon Reaganomics with longing.
