Drew Bignall, the son of RHPMom was just named co pitcher of the week in the SCAC. Drew threw a complete game two hit shutout on Sunday for the Trinity, TX Tigers. The reason Drew was the co-pitcher for the week is teammate Brian Oates threw a 7 inning complete game no-hitter on Saturday followed by teammate Chuck Huggins complete game 1 hit shutout in the 2nd game of a doubleheader. For the weekend, this trio threw 3 complete game shutouts, gave up 3 hits in 3 games, struckout 25 and gave up 5 walks.
This is a very talented trio. Drew will pitch next summer in the NECBL, Brian in the Cape Cod League and Chuck in the Colorado league. All cruise at 86-87 plus with Brian as high as 93 this year. Pretty good for DIII..or any level for that matter.

Thanks infielddad--
All three pitchers had a good team behind them catching those fly balls & making the outs.

Thanks Orlando & LadyNmom!

Orlando--yes, he heard from Coach Rapaglia right away. I see Aeden is also off to a great start at GA State! applaude I went to the baseball homepage and found him featured after hitting a dinger on the weekend. Drew said they emailed during the fall season & that Aeden was loving it at GA. Congrats to him to.

BTW--did you know Lance Painter is the new pitching coach for the Mariner's A team in Appleton WI? Appleton is close enough for us to get down there for a couple of games this summer.

Terrific! Congrats to Drew on a great game and another season starting with a nice honor! (I remember his first freshman start last year, earning Pitcher of the Week honors also).

clap

And congrats to Aeden - it's wonderful to hear that he is off to a good start at his new school also!

Thanks Julie
Drew, Brian Oates & Chuck Huggins were named Tri-Pitchers of the Week in the SCAC this week. Apparently it was only the second time in league history for 3 complete game shut-outs in one conference weekend. Outfielder Nick Vera from Trinity was also named Player of the Week.

RHPMom,

I just saw on another site that Drew and his two mound-mates were also named by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn as Honorable Mention for national DIII Pitcher of the Week honors. Also, congrats to Drew on another victory yesterday!

Got to see the season opening weekend, Julie, and Aeden's first D1 hit, a triple against GA Tech (and no, the LFer didn't break a leg on the way to the ball Wink) He's rounding second, and while he's being clever enough to see the fielder hadn't played it off the wall well, I'm yelling "Are you crazy? You're a catcher!"

Next trip will be early April, and I can't wait. He's had the last two Cover Boy pics on the GSU website, so Mommy's pleased. Big Grin

Donna, what a good son, hitting the triple when mom was there! Big Grin Oh, I love the Cover Boy part! He sure looks good in the blue catcher's gear:

...although I do recall him doing a darn good job as the other half of the pitch/catch battery! Wink

RHPMom,

I wish your son & his Trinity (Texas) team great success during the Regional run & beyond.

Now that our HSU run is over, I wanted to mention D-Ruck took a hard-luck loss in a midweek game at Trinity this season. We platooned our staff w/ my son getting 1 inning of work (the 3rd). Trinity threw Horn the complete game while your son's team was aiming for the 30th win of the season. I couldn't make the trip, but while at work, did monitor Gametracker & listen on the radio. After my son got 2 quick outs, a couple hits later, he allowed the 1st run of the game. That run proved to be enough for him to take a loss on the chin for his team & Horn take Trinity to their 30th. My son did however give a great radio interview and gave credit to the Trinity hitters. He stated:
quote:
I left a couple pitches up and you can't do that to a high caliber team as Trinity.

D-Ruck sandwiched that 1 inning of work loss with 8 straight conference starts & 8 straight conference & conference tournament wins. Needless to say, he got over it. Funny thing about baseball. Somedays you got it, somedays you don't.

Again, congratulations for your son and I will keep reading about a successful Trinity season as it continues.

Southpaw Pop,

Thank you!! for the good-luck wishes, I'll pass them on to the Trinity team via my son.

Sounds like your son had an outstanding season--congrats to him. Taking a loss is the unfortunate side of pitching but there's always something to be learned from it to make a pitcher and his team stronger the next time around. Your son showed a great attitude in his interview--it's easy to see where he gets it from. He was named ASC Pitcher of the Year, no? What a great season.

Again thanks for the kind words and good thoughts, everything helps.

Congrats to Trinity on the win, and to Drew for pitching 8 strong innings for the win, giving up only 4 hits and 2 runs (1 earned). Also congrats to Drew for being named to the All-SCAC team as a sophomore!
