Well... It was just a rumor floated here several weeks back that Coach Gilmore was leaving. Since my son is attending there this fall, I am very excited to have him playing for this particular coach. You can tell in the following article that there is no where else the coach would rather be than Coastal.

Luvbb - I think that gust could be felt down south here too!

CD - That is absolutely awesome news, although I've told you all along they wouldn't let him go. Gilmore seems so committed to his guys and program that there's no doubt they will do great things!

Congratulations to all of the CC parents and players here!! clap

It is great news and a big sigh of relief from Chicago! I spoke with Coach Gilmore Monday just before his meeting with the University President, and he was confident things would be worked out. But I've been on pins and needles all week waiting to hear something.

Go Chants!!

Thanks everyone - it is indeed exciting. Here is an article from the Myrtle Beach paper this morning that paints a slightly different picture than the official school announcement I posted above. They candidly discuss that a big school could always come along and snatch him away. What kind of bugs me a little is the amount that they have invested in football down there is enormous. I guess they figure gate revenue will recoup the investment. They still seem a little stingy toward the baseball program IMHO in view of the success they have achieved.

SoutherNo1,

Landis will be one of my son's roomates this fall. We will be looking forward to meeting him and his family. Another freshman roomate from NC - David Sappelt, has already contacted my son. I understand he is a sensational player as well. We are very excited. We came very close the last two years to winning the big school state championship in Ohio. We were a State runner-ups two years ago and State semi-finalists this past season. We are hoping and praying for a trip to Omaha someday.

I had earned rumors the USC (SoCal) coach is on the hot seat for not getting the team to Omaha and that they were looking at Gilmore as the type of up and coming coach that could get the program over the hump again. The USC coach is retirement age and if Gilmore can make it at a school like CC, USC does make sense. But, these are typical rumors that circulate. I don't know how true it is.

Coach May and SoutherNo1,

If you guys are going to be down at Coastal or in that area this fall, let me know the dates and I'll try and stop by and say hello. I was planning a fall visit down there and that just may be a good weekend for me to go.

I'm sure glad for Coach and for the program. I'm still wondering if somehow I could end up making ends meet if I came down there to assist the coach. I think that would be the ultimate life... living in Myrtle Beach (my favorite place in the world), and coaching college baseball. How much better could life get?! I'll be down there next week for vacation... I'll be dreaming big time!

There's a young man who I coached in HS who'd LOVE to go to CC. His name is Hugh Wescott. He's pitching for Hagerstown CC now and doing very well. He had a 2.09 era for them in 2005.

Coach Ringer,

You may want to suggest that Hugh attend a camp so the coaches can see him. They have some fine JUCO pitchers coming in this year from the west coast.

We are going to be down there next weekend (Aug. 13th). If you are still there, let me know and maybe we can have a beer together or something like that.

Dad,
Thanks for the reply. We won't get into town until late on the 14th. Perhaps the CC coaches can keep track of their website and Hugh's progress this coming season. He's a fine young ballplayer who really loves to compete.

I want to sneak out to their campus while we're in town so I can see it for the first time. I'm sure it's a dandy.

Thanks again, best wishes to you and your son.

I know that the asst. Coach Jarman accepted the head coach at Lander University in Greenwood SC. I know that he seems to be well respected by people while he was at Coastal for 6 years if I'm not mistaken. Any comments on his demeanor...coaching style...likes dislikes? Also they have a new assistant, any information on him?
