UVA bites the dust, with its best two starters going down to So. Carolina and Evansville, in succession and on their home field. What a bummer, we were hoping to see a Super Regional next weekend!

Starting to look like the Atlanta Braves -- built well for the long season, but having trouble in short tournament play.

Oh well, only one senior in the starting lineup. See you next February, start it all over again!

I didn't see it but it the play-by-play from Gametracker has the look of one of those emotional games where, once you realize it's getting away, the roof caves in. They set a season high for errors, as one example. It had to be an emotionally crushing defeat for a team that had higher hopes.

This is O'Connors 3rd season. Bobby Cox has been at it much longer! As your mentioned though they only had one senior in the lineup, so they will def. be back for more next season. They are similar to the Braves in terms of the bullpens of late though. glare

Maybe it's time they moved the fences in to a reasonable distance and recruited some HR guys. Certainly the HR guys for the other teams ate UVA up this weekend. Without the HR's, it's tough to catch up on those days when the pitching falls through. And you can't plan on pitching always being "on", esp. at that level of competition.

In my mind, if someone hits it 400' to CF on the fly, he deserves a HR. At UVA, you have to hit it 408' long and 40' high to get one. As a result, the team has been built to hit like the 1982 Cardinals. But it's a metal bat game in college, and that ain't gonna change.
