Midlothian finally got a strong pitching outing as Ryan Mallory held Clover Hill to 2 runs on 5 hits, but the Trojans fell again as the Cavaliers' Cody Powell was even better, hurling a complete game, 2-hit shutout in a 2-0 win.

Manchester held Chris Hardee out of its game with Cosby and suffered a 10-0 shellacking as a result. Ronnie Shaban had a complete game, 2-hit shutout of his own, while Josh Wilburn went 3-3 with 3 RBI for the Titans.

James River went to Clover Hill Wednesday and ... it was bad. Real bad.

JR got 17 hits and 18 runs. Pretty much everyone got into the act.

Meanwhile, Daniel Marrs held Clover Hill hitless until the slaughter rule was invoked after 5. The Cavs made lots of contact -- in fact there were only 2 K's -- but nothing was hit hard, and only one ball even left the infield.

Clover Hill was 3-1 in district play coming in, having lost to Cosby but beaten Monacan, Manchester and Midlothian. Bad day at the office for the Cavaliers.

Then, the other kind of bad ...

James River blew a 10-1 lead, as Chris Hardee capped an amazing comeback with a 3-run, walk-off homer to complete Manchester's 12-11 win Thursday afternoon. James River fielding errors and mistakes gave Manchester 2 or more extra outs in the 4th and 7th, leading to 7 of the runs in the comeback. James River wasted 4-4 days by Austin Stadler (2 doubles) and Carter Brown (double and homer included).

Midlothian beat Monacan 15-5 behind Ryan Mallory's 2 HR's and 7 RBI. Mallory has become one of the scariest hitters you'll face, he's at least 6'6" and 250 lbs of power hitting first baseman, on his way to UR next year. Tragically, Monacan's best pitcher, junior Jake Tuzzo, took a line shot off the face and has some broken bones and stitches, will be out indefinitely. Our heart goes out to Jake and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.

L.C. Bird continued to right its ship with a 12-2 win over Clover Hill. Andrew Deal had a complete game with 9 K's while allowing 7 hits.
