I would like some recommendations for pitching instruction in the Richmond area. I searched the "find" section but haven't seen this discussed lately. Would prefer someone north of the rivah but not adverse to traveling south. Have a 2011 son that plays HS & travel but has really only had 2 formal pitching lessons & really needs guidance & a routine to really step up to the next level.
Thanks!

We have used Rich Graham at RBA South and would recommend him highly. They are located about 5 minutes off Rt. 288, very near Southside Speedway in Midlothian.

From what I've seen of kids using different coaches north of the river, I would say that if you can get in with Guy Hanson that's probably your best bet there. I don't know his contact info but I think he has a home made facility behind his house in Goochland somewhere.

Thanks. He has been to Guy Hansen's in Goochland once & really liked him. We are looking someone we could see on a more consistent basis. Thank-you for your suggestion.

Phil Wilson, former minor league pitcher in the Padres organization, runs a baseball academy at (RISE) Richmond Indoor Sports Experience. Just type that in Google and you'll get the website. Phil is a very good pitching instructor, and is committed to his students. His son Tyler Wilson, formerly of Midlothian High School, currently pitches for UVA.

Wayne Gomes, Virginia Baseball Academy. Wayne pitched for the Phillies and Boston and had a pretty successful pro career. he runs the VBA I believe out of Hampton. My son played in a couple of travel tournaments with some players from his academy. Wayne is one of those pro players who is finished with his baseball career and is now giving back to the game by supporting inner-city youth and the drive to get more African Americans back into the game of baseball. He is a pretty classy guy and down to earth. He also had a pretty solid career at ODU where my son will be playing.

Jack Moore. He has worked with many players from Tidewater who have gone on to the next level-both college and pro- in both Pitching and Batting. Worked with my son for a couple of years and I credit him with helping him develop into a drafted pitcher. IM me for more details.

I'd strongly recommend Tommy Harrison at Richmond Baseball Instructors (RBI) - like all of the fellows recommended - he has a long list of successful pitchers who are moving on to the college level. Tommy is a former pro pitcher, successful coach at a number of stops and tied into the college coaching pipeline. RBI is conveniently located near Willow Lawn Shopping Center and the interstate. Big facility

Impartial, may I ask who your son is? Is he still playing?

Wayne Gomes and Jack Moore are both great guys and knowledgable pitching instructors, however it's pretty hard not to mention Gary Lavelle at Complete Game Baseball in Chesapeake in the list of high level instructors in the Tidewater area. Gary was a pro for 20 something years and a major leaguer for like 14. Not to mention a National League All Star twice.

Of course Gary is one of "the" guys in the area. I just thought it was more valuable to mention guys with whom you had personal experience.
