A webster suggested that I post this college in this forum to get some VA feedback:

I've read some really negative reviews of living conditions at Old Dominion on epinions.com. Lots of talk about dangerous neighborhood, unclean dorms, etc. But the reviews all seem to be from several years ago.

Anybody have any insight? Hopefully things are better now? Reviews inaccurate to begin with?

I am a graduate of ODU and can speak first hand on this topic. Like any "urban campus" you are going to hear all kinds of rumors about surrounding neighborhoods and crime. When you are on campus, you are on campus and it is like any other college or university. ODU has done TONS of work to rid itself of its dangerous reputation and in my opinion has succeeded! The university police work hand in hand with the norfolk PD and do a good job. The "locals" do their thing and the students do their thing. Do always believe everything you read or hear, see it for yourself, as any campus. GO MONARCHS!

I presently go to ODU and I totally agree with parkerave00. ODU has done alot to improve the conditions of the campus. IF their is any knonck on the living conditions it is that some of the dorms are old, but they are presently renevating them so the majority of the dorms are pretty clean if not new.

The ODU of old is not the ODU of now..

They have worked hard to clean up the campus, upgrade facilities, etc. and it shows.. We know several who attend school there and none have had any problems..

Like all colleges, you learn where to go and where not to go very quickly. Stay away from the bad areas and all is fine.

They also have a very respected baseball program
