I just saw Baseball America's list of their top 25 college and high school draft prospects for next season, and at least four of the guys have ties to Virginia. Obviously these lists are very fluid, but it looks like it may be a decent year for the state, at least from the perspective of college players. The four with definite ties to Virginia:

3. Deck McGuire, RHP, Georgia Tech- Deep Run HS (2007 State POY I believe)
18. Jesse Hahn, RHP, Virginia Tech- Conn. native, showed a big arm on the Cape, although he hasn't exactly dominated at VT
22. Jarrett Parker, OF, UVA- Colonial Forge HS, all ACC
23. Justin Grimm, RHP, Georgia- Virginia HS in Bristol, 13th round pick out of high school

I also distinctly remember something about #19 Brett Eibner, OF/RHP from Arkansas, having Virginia ties, but I don't remember the exact connection.

PGCrosschecker has one, blended list of the top 300 draft-eligible players, including HS and college guys.

6. Jesse Hahn
13. Deck McGuire
15. Justin Grimmm
38. Jarrett Parker
58. Tyler Wilson, RHP, Midlothian HS, UVA
60. Kevin Munson, RHP, Roanoke, JMU
111. Dan Grovatt, OF, NJ native at UVA
118. Matt Price, RHP, GA native at Tech
120. Cody Wheeler, LHP, Spotsylvania, Coastal Carolina
136. Austin Wates, OF, St. Chris, Va. Tech
153. Turner Phelps, RHP, Roanoke, JMU
216. Sean Tierney, LHP, Clover Hill, JMU (transfer from UVA, this will be his first season at JMU)
233. Phil Gosselin, IF/OF, PA native at UVA
277. Tyler Cannon, SS, TN native at UVA
285. Robert Morey, RHP, Va. Beach, UVA
300. Mitchell Shifflett, OF at Cosby HS

Notes:

That's SIX guys from UVA. Considering all the plaudits given to their now-sophomore class, that is one loaded up team.

Also, JMU must be the preseason favorite in the CAA when it has a weekend rotation of three pitchers projected to go in the top 7 rounds. That has to be the first time I've ever seen that in VA college ball, let alone in the CAA.

According to his bio, it looks like he'll turn 21 early next July (within 45 days of the draft) which would make him a draft eligible sophomore. It doesn't look like he redshirted, so I'm not sure exactly why he is just a true sophomore, but it could be a number of reasons. Regardless, he is draftable.

Also 9 VA players listed in PGX's top 200 early prospects for the 2011 draft:

10. Danny Hultzen, UVA LHP
31. Jake Cave, Hampton Christian LHP
68. Jackie Bradley, U. So. Car. OF (from Prince George HS)
71. Will Lamb, Clemson OF (from York HS)
72. Peter Verdin, Georgia OF (from Paul VI)
74. Steven Proscia, UVA 3B
81. TJ Costen, First Colonial SS
111. Daniel Marrs, Wake Forest RHP (from James River)
160. Kevin White, STAB C

There are a few pretty prominent names NOT on this list, esp. from the college ranks, that will probably get there after they get two more springs plus maybe a summer at the Cape to burnish their resumes. Also, it's really early to be projecting HS players who still haven't played even in their junior years, but the above info is presented FWIW.

Nine guys in the top 5 rounds would be a pretty decent showing for the state, though.

I love ya Midlo, and 99.99% of the time I think you are right, but I am compelled by my faith to make one correction to your list:

Paul VI is named for POPE Paul VI. I am not sure that there were six Pauls who were worthy of sainthood.
