With projected first round pick Jeremy Jeffress throwing over 100mph on several pitches and cruising from 95-100 with breaking ball command at 84-87 Halifax beats Forest Park 1-0. A good game with Forest Park's Ryan Wooley pitching an outstanding game as well.

mrmom: this must be amazing to see. A high school pitcher throwing above 100 mph! It must almost be impossible to see to the high school hitter's eye. Any word on where this young man is projected in the june draft?(in top 5 picks?)
"When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stone-cutter hammering away at his rock perhaps 100 times without as much as a crack showing. Yet at the 101st blow, it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before." mtownfan

Jeffress is projected in the top 15, some have him as a top 10 pick, but not top 5. He has been likened to DOC Gooden, with the only difference being he lacks the polish on his breaking ball that Gooden had initially. Some mock drafts have him going to the Nationals on the 13th pick.

The most amazing part, it appears effortless -- very smooth. We did manage 3 hits for the game in succession in the second inning, the last being an attempt at a sacrifice bunt. The ball hit the bat so hard it went by the pitcher like a push bunt. We loaded the bases no outs...a K and a double play and we were done

Scouting report (from a very trusted source), Jeffress is a special one, besides being telented, gifted it appears he has the right "make-up" as well. I wish him ALL THE BEST:
12. Jeremy Jeffress RHP Sr. R-R 6-1 170 Halifax County HS South Boston, Va. Longwood
SCOUTING REPORT: High-profile arm and droves of scouting directors/crosscheckers have been in to see him . . . Undersized 6-0 RHP, but stuff compares at a similar stage to Dwight Gooden (Mets, 1982)/Willie Banks (Twins, 1987), both former high-profile first-round picks; has similar arm quickness/delivery, electric stuff . . . Gooden was taller, but Jeffress has the same high waist, long legs/arms, short torso . . . has a +++ arm, with possibly the best arm strength of any pitcher in the 06 draft; his FB sits at 95-98 and has reached 100—making him only the second pitcher in high school annals to reach triple digits, joining Texan Colt Griffin in 2001 . . . has an effortless delivery and the body type to throw even harder but his lack of body strength may prevent him from holding his velo over a long stretch; has a chance to be a No. 1 starter in the big leagues . . . he needs work on his secondary stuff; if he had a power CU to match his fastball, he might be a candidate to go 1/1; his breaking pitch (a slurve) is inconsistent but has gotten much better; he has had little need to use CH against HS hitters . . . has performed ++ well, especially in the weeks leading up to draft, and his stock has surged from fringe first-round to solid mid first-rounder . . . has learned to deal with fanfare; has good composure and is easy around scouts.

Amazing part was in practive in the regional semifinal game, he was playing right field in practice and tossing the ball from the fence 350 to the plate on the fly without effort. Also homered in the game. But alas his team lost 9-4 so his high school career is over.
