Kids 6ft 1 to 6 ft 4 who when on the mound cannot break glass----is it the early training or what?

Early maturity, overpowering/intimidating in LL.
At least they are throwing downhill!

Size doesn't guarantee power. Some kids are 6-8 and can't play basketball too!

It is just amazing how little arm strength these kids have

I think it's the lack of emphasis on core work and over all muscle development in the bigger kids. In other words, no matter how big the rubber band, if you can't pull it tight, you're not going to shoot it very far. I think most little league and lots of High School Coaches are thinking what you are (this kid should be throwing gas! Why isn't he?), but they don't have the pitching knowledge you do to know how to fix it.

Personally I think many of these kids will never achieve what they should velocity-wise because all along they have not worked at it--it is tough to change attitudes when you have been doing things incorrectly for so long

I think you are absolutely right, but when you get just one that will do what you ask and will put the work in as long as they are seeing positive results, it makes it all worth it! When I see a kid respond and have good results after I've been working with them and they want to come back for more, it's the best feeling in the world. I know I'm not knowledgeable enough to get someone to the pros and I tell them that up front, but I am successful at teaching younger kids through High School and I enjoy it very much.

maybe with a recent rash of arm injury's ,surgery's. parents and maybe players are a little tentative to unload? i do agree most don't put the work into the game, never mind the work involved in pitching that needs to be done. imo.

i think it's our society today as well. kids don't just play anymore. to many things to do that don't require (mush) MUCH effort. but maybe i'm just living in the past.

It may be that they've done too much lifting and not enough throwing, some forms of lifting exercises help a kid get bigger and in their eyes more attractive or impressive but hinders arm speed. I think it's a choice some kids are willing to make and choose to go for the look or they may be training for another sport such as f*#tb%ll.

You're definitely living in the past 20dad...and so am I. There was a time when we all pulled together and did put out mush effort...and we liked it!

Trust me, that's tough and takes a lot of effort!(translate- run your tail off and keep the dogs fired up) 20 said there are too many things to do that do not require THAT kind of effort! Too many kids sittin' around doin the thumb exercises, nauh me?

Those old eight girlfriends are a talkative and friendly harem 20dad...and they kept all of their keepsakes, mementos, and photos...lots and lots of photos!

Why here's one 20dad...take a look.

Here are all eight of 'em along the breakwater in Jupiter. Remember that afternoon 20dad? You totally convinced them that they were holding aloft a 20' long loaf of French bread...Becky even fell off the breakwater and she still thought she had that loaf above her head...you were good 20dad...very good!

And check out that arm strength...you don't see that nowadays.

Yes TR- even here in Florida (home of the "if you dont throw at least 80 at 13 you aint going to ever pitch" mentality, personally what I am seeing is way to much improper and misguided work with weights. We just recently were able to save a young mans career as he was throwing sideways
(lost his arm movement to proper release point due to weights) and he is 15, had only lifted for 2 months but simply didnt know what he was doing in a "supervised workout" with a baseball coach as he said I can now lift X amount, and I said but son you cant throw a baseball anymore.
So we went back to basics: proper longtoss proper longtoss, it continues to amaze me however as so many players are told by college coaches you gotta get stronger, thus off to the gym they go.

My son is a RH closer, yes he's good. To look at him he would be the last player you would pick for your team he is tall 6'1" but very very thin (weight has not caught up with growth spurt) but his arm strength is equal to anyone twice his weight. Everyone always asks him if his arm has implants or something because he can throw faster than most of them, and his control is perfect. If you look at his arm it is nothing but muscle but in the right places, years and years of throwing and pitching has built up this particular group of muscles. I agree that improper weight lifting will ruin a baseball players ability to throw faster and accurately.
