I am interested in swapping a variety of material, I have information on fielding, hitting, catching, pitching, baserunning and coaching in general. I am interested in getting a High school/college Player - Coaching manual along with various information about the high school game.

I too would love to participate. I am not sure what I have to offer just yet as I am a relative newbie to HS coaching. Here is my attempt at the requirements:

1. malibuskier2003@yahoo.com
2. A - Middle Infield Play
B - Hitting
C - Tryouts
3. I have a smorgasboard of information I have gleened from the internet and a variety of practice plans I have created but all of my stuff is centered around (and caters to) youth baseball. I will, however, share anything I have if someone wants it.

Looking for: Hitting drills, Coach knight, I would love to see your pitching info and the motivational stuff. i want to put something either in our locker room or on a t-shirt. Last year we had a group that was more focused on themselves and not the team and this is something I want to hit on from the get go.

I definately would be interersted in the bertman stuff from his LSU days.

Willing to give: I have some very good scouting charts and also some game day items for our own team. An offensive production chart that I first received from another coach here in GA and changed it a little for our goal.

I am looking for rating sheet or whatever you guys may use for tryouts. I have never been around a program that has had to make cuts before and want to know what some of you use. Anything you could send me would be great. I also am new to coaching and don't have much to offer in return at this point. Thanks for the help.

Coachc....we rate our players in 5 categories. Arm speed, 60 time, hitting, fielding, and throwing accuracy.

We then rank them from 1 to however many you have trying out. Example....Who ever throws the hardest on the gun gets ranked #1 second hardest thrower gets ranked #2 and so on.

We then add all five category rankings together to get a total score. The player with the lowest score is rated #1 and so on down the line. We put this on a spread sheet to help keep up with it.

Most guys that have been around the game awhile can rate players pretty well, but this give you something on paper that you can show parents and players. This will also help for those players that feel like that should be playing up. It gives them hard data on how they compare to the others on the team.

Here is an example of a few of the players

Player 60time Hitting Fielding Accur Arm Total
***** 2 4 1 1 4 12
***** 4 7 6.5 9 5.5 32
***** 7 1 9 2.5 17 36.5
***** 6 11 14.5 4 2.5 38
***** 11 4 11.5 2.5 9.5 38.5
****** 13 10 9 7 2.5 41.5
****** 16 8 2.5 11 5.5 43
****** 12 10 2.5 4 16 44.5
*** 10 6 18.5 4 9.5 48
***** 9 0 13 16.5 9.5 48
**** 22 0 5 9 14 50
***** 3 3 14.5 12.5 18.5 51.5
*** 5 11 16.5 19 1 52.5
****** 14 2 6.5 19 12 53.5

Coach ,
Do you have a chart that you use during the tryout process? How do you get the arm speed? for inf? Out? Do you have them all throw from one spot?

We do something similar as far as hitting goes we rate each swing a kid takes during BP.

Player 6 5 3 1 0
6 a " Line drive Shot" or HR
5 Line drive, Deep Fly, hard hit ground ball
3 Routine fly, ground ball
1 Weak Grounder or Weak pop, fall ball into cage
0 Swing and Miss

We also rate kids on fiedling, I am always looking for new info. We base things on speed , have not timed them before but we will this year.

I like the radar reading on all kids.

We have a coach at each station with a spread sheet chart containing player names (save alot of time at practice) recording the scores. We then rotate players from station to station.

The same way you rate your hitting, we also rate fielding and throwing accuracy.

We have done throwing different through the years, but the last few we have had them all throw from the same spot. We are looking simply for arm speed when we do this.

Most time there will be a natural separation in the scores, and this is often where we divided our players for the different teams or for the players that are cut.

Thanks guys! My biggest problem is going to be the fact that we will probably not be able to get outside because of weather. North Cent. IL is usually not cooperative for the first week or so of practice. I am expecting to have some difficult cuts this year so I really want to have something on paper to have for parent/player complaints.

Some guys had sent me some baseball info and others asked for info. Can you please re-send that info. This is a new email account for me and I didn't realize that there was a 2 day auto-archive function. Needless to say, I lost everyone's email.

Thanks,
Jeremy
