Son justifies poor hitting in his position by saying a really good defensive catcher is valued more for their blocking, calling games, etc than a good offensive catcher. In other words why waste his valuable time working on his hitting. Anybody know of any such examples?

What level? i think you would find that most "defensive" guys in the ML were hitters at some point in time. See this link http://hsbaseballweb.com/eve/f...491066862#6491066862

imo its nice to play good defense, however if you don't hit, you won't play much and/or move on.

The fact is for every great defensive catcher, there is a great defensive catcher that can hit and is waiting to take your place.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery ...today is a gift - don't waste it.

CollegeParent, very good link on catching. This coach knows what he is talking about. Ozone, looks like son will make a very good bullpen catcher. He is in for a big surprise in five weeks.
