It's been a while since I've been around the game, and catching gear has definitely changed, and for the better it seems. Except for those goofy hockey masks that is.

Which brand should I go with for a new set of gear?

Also, can I even still find skull caps and masks, old school style?

You can find them, they're still pretty popular, except some leagues actually ban them.

Exactly how long have you been away from the game that things have changed so drastically?

jdn - most gear out there is going to be good quality stuff and should hold up well. My son has used Rawlings, TPX, All Star, and now Wilson and they have all lasted a couple of seasons each. He just got the Wilson Hinge FX gear and finds it to be the most comfortable gear he's ever had. Good Luck.

Catch43;

I've been away for about 13 years or so, since Legion ball, which for me was mid 90's.

Wow, thats a while.

I tried the Wilson Hinge FX and hated it. I use Mizuno Samurai and I like it a lot, but I think the next set I'll get will be All Star. I just got their glove and am in love with it.

You hated the Wilson, really. What did you not like about it?
Regarding the Mizuno, I've sort of been leaning towards it, or Easton Stealth, b/c they both look to be the least restrictive on the my throwing arm. Is that true with the Mizuno?

Thanks,
Jeff

The main problem I had with the Wilson was the Shin Guards and the mask. I never tried the mask with shox so I can't comment on that but the mask I had was very tight on my jaws.

The shin guards were very flimsy and flexible. I used them with knee savers and they werent too comfortable. I don't wear knee savers anymore and maybe they'll wrap around my legs better but I don't know. School practices start up again soon, I can try the Wilson again.

As for Mizuno, its very comfortable and I don't have any complaints. There is probably better out there but not for the same price. Easton Stealth is very comfortable, I wore them once.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again for the info. A couple more questions if you don't mind.

Regarding the Wilson Chest Protector only, how was it?
Between the Wilson chest protector and the Mizuno, which did you find least restrictive in respect to throwing?

About shin guards, I'm actually sort of leaning towards Nike's. Do you know anything about them?

Thanks,
Jeff
