How fast are catchers usually clocked? Forget pop time, because that has do with feet quickness and everything. Just on a throw, how fast are catchers clocked (from high school, to college, and pro).

this MPH we are talking bout here right? because i wanted to know that, even though it doesnt matter how good your velo is if u dont have good footwork, but i still was curious too

From looking at PG results and watching games it seems a good HS catcher can be anywhere from 75-80, with the 80+ being exceptional.

On my son's college team two kids throw around 85, the other catchers on the team throw around 80. However the guy that plays is the guy that hits, as 80 is more then enough arm strength for an excellent pop time. I would suspect any catcher getting near 90 might find himself on the mound!

As for pro's they are looking for guys that can hit. MIke Piazza could hit but would bounce the ball to 2nd....

I find it strange that there are many catchers that can throw in the upper seventies, some in the eighties, with a good pivot and snap throw, and there are pitchers, who get to take their time and have a huge windup, and can only throw mid to upper eighties usually. Does any one else find this strange? if not, please explain why it is that pitchers don't throw much faster than catchers.

Its a 10 mph difference, thats alot. Also, its not like all people that throw hard are pitchers. Everyone, at every position will try and get their strongest arm possible.

o yeah, probably true. didn't realize the difference, it was 2 in the morning, kind of sleepy.

i was clocked yesterday at 83 mph,and the time ended up at 1.95,another time i was clocked at 76 with a 2.01 pop... are they clocking you at the beginning of your throw or just before it reaches the bag? or inbetween? the velocity can vary quite a bit, i think its completely irrelavent
