Has your husband/significant other ever startled you with a new interest that came out of nowhere???

My husband came home the other day with a
magazine called SaltWater Sportsman.....
I have known this man since 1973...always a basketball, baseball and football guy. Where did this come from?

And then, one of my funniest baseball girlfriends sends me this cute little story:

A couple goes on vacation to a fishing resort in Northern Minnesota. The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn. The wife likes to read.

One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.

Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to tkae the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors and continues to read her book.

Along comes a law enforcement officer in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you doing?"

"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking "isn't it obvious?")

"You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her.

"I'm sorry officer, but I'm not fishing...I'm reading."

"Yes, but you have the equipment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.

"Bit I haven't touched you," says the officer.

"That's true, but you have all the equipment."

The officer says, "Have a nice day."

Moral of the story:
Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

Chill, I loved to fish as a child ... 2 parents, 5 kids, 1 dog and a bunch of snacks in a boat. But to tell you the truth, I now find fishing boring, so hubby usually goes with his brothers. Cool

I don't think you are going to find too much "saltwater" fishing in Minnesota! Wink
To make your hubby's "new" hobby an advantage for you....tell him he can go salt water fishing in Key West (or someplace tropical) as long as you can tag along! Cool

I forgot to add....my husband is a fisherman...mostly trout fishing these days. When we were dating in college I used to tag along and "pretend" I was interested in the sport...until I "hooked" him! Big Grin In all honesty, I didn't understand the appeal of it....waaaaaaay too boring for me! Hubby would bait the hook for me (wouldn't touch it!), hubby would take the fish off the hook for me (wouldn't touch it!). Plus, all the other men would give me disdainful looks when I caught fish when it was evident I had absolutely NO idea what I was doing! After we got engaged, I put the fishing rods away, but I let him keep his!

Chill ...

My husband's second favorite thing to do is trout fishing. (Can't get him on the salt water because he tends to chum for the other fishermen ... )

He likes stream fishing the best, but will occasionally settle for fishing a beautiful alpine lake somewhere in the Eastern Sierras, or Colorado, or Utah. Sometimes he travels alone, sometimes he takes a buddy, and sometimes I join him. When I go with him, I generally will take one day to fish with him ... but it had better be a lake because I catch too many rocks and tree limbs if we go to a stream. Sometimes I just take a chair, sit along the stream bank, and read while he fishes. Other times, I stay back at the campsite (we own a 23' travel trailer) and listen to music, read, do my cross-stitch, or (my absolute favorite) ...

Since we are practically empty nesters, I find this a great time to with my beloved husband of 27+ years ...

My favorite times

Night fishing for bass in Eastern Washington potholes reservoir, watching the northern lights, what a memory. Fishing in the canals, looking at a heron rookery, another great memory. Even though I have only caught a fish rarely.

Boy am I glad this thread got posted. My DH and I agree on two thirds of the process: He catches 'em, I cook 'em. The argument is over who cleans 'em. Because he's not the most successful fisherman in the world this argument is purely theoretical at the moment. But one of these days he's actually going to catch a keeper and then boyhowdy it won't be pretty... duel

Who cleans the fish in your family?

beepers ...

My husband is primarily a catch-and-release guy. But if he catches a rare trophy fish ... well, do they really have innerds? Wouldn't know ... I don't clean them, and I don't stay around while they are being cleaned ... and they aren't allowed in my pretty little trailer unless they are clean ... 14

My husband is an avid fisherman...now has even has hookd my son....only deep sea for cod,
haddock and blue fish...we owned our own boat for a brief period during our early years but I finally made him ditch it ...he went one Saturday...told me I will be home at 5 and I am going to Newburyport...ok...5pm comes..6...7...8..9...10 I am literally falling apart...getting ready to call Coast Guard for a search when up the street he comes...10:30 PM...5 and 1/2 hours late...well the motor crooked and he had to be hauled back into the marina...in Hyannis...100 miles from where he said he was going to be!!!!...strick 1 against the boat...next was I decided to join him...we are in Cape Cod Canal...HUGE I mean HUGE boats going past us...we drift wayyyyyyyyyy out because of the high waves but I was drinking soda and needed the little girls comfort station...3x...now that is not a problem for a guy but since I can not swim it meant a trip back to marina each time...he was none to happy...so my solution was to get rid of the boat...still talks about getting another one(over my dead body) and he and my son attend all the boat shows...he is not allowed to clean the fish in the house....must do it in the backyard and must bury the guts(makes great fertilizer) but I must say I HATE FISHING...why can't he take up bird watching smash

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
