Thought I'd share--

Just dropped my oldest (13)off at the airport for his first flight alone. He's off to Arizona for a tournament and spring training. Mom a little sad knowing this will not be the only time I will have to do this. His youngest brother (6) cried for an hour after we left and the 2 middle bros have been high fiving ever since.

Funny thing is-he's in his element. Met people on the plane. Happened to be relatives of one of his close friends. Also, got to meet the freshman coach (shouldn't he be on a ball field somewhere?). He's having a blast. Why am I so bummed? We (parents) are so pathetic that we are even going to watch his "real" team this weekend (He's playing "up" with the 14's)for our anniversary, nothing like a romantic hot dog and coke dinner. inlove

Hey BBfam, as far as I'm concerned... nothing says romance like sharing a baseball game with your guy!! Smile Gives you an excuse to continue the celebration some other time too!! Happy anniversary and good luck to your son!!

BBfam ...

I love the description of the boys left behind ... the baby brother so sad and the middle guys thrilled that their pesky older brother is out of their hair.

As for the anniversary ... what else does one do on their anniversary? And I have an April birthday ... so you can well imagine how many of those have been spent in the bleachers over the past 19+ years since ours hit his first ball off the T?

Hope your week-end will go well without him. (Am writing this from Tucson ... visiting son and wife at spring training before they head to Alabama for 5 months .... )

FBM-So you know then that the weather did not cooperate. Trying to frantically reschedule games, see games and all that fun stuff. In spite of it all, he's having a great time. Been to ASU, met a couple players who gave them the "this is what life is like as a college ballplayer" talk. Was even hoping to get some BP on their field (good luck, huh?) It is all good. As far as the anniversary, we are spending it together and that is all that really matters. Last year we were at separate ball fields so we stepping it up. Next year who knows? Maybe even get dinner at a restaurant.

BBfam ...

Quite a rain down in the desert, I should say. The only damper ( haha pun intended)it put on our visit was having son's game moved up 3 hours, thus causing us to miss his first inning of relief. And by the time I got to the field (panting heavily), I only got to see him face the last 2 batters.

The best part of the rain for us, tho, was that it caused a cancellation of the Fri game which son would have had to chart, so he was done before noon and we got to spend a wonderful afternoon with him and his wife ... nice lunch together and a movie.

Today, he was headed off to camp at 6 in the morning and so he awakened us before he left to give us our hugs and kisses good-bye. It was such an unusual good-bye that I didn't even cry ... unlike when I said good-bye to his wife and dog. The tears did flow ... end of May seems a long time away and Mobile so very far away. We can always hope that he is assigned to AAA in Tucson but that might be asking too much 14

This is so true. What else could you do on an anniversary that would be better? This was great for a good eye cleansing, read with tears streaming down my face. It's so hard to let them go and you don't ever stop missing them, it's just sometimes easier than other times.
