Hey,
Is anyone else's son mortified that you are talking on this message board? My son is about to die that I would come on here and talk. He told me to never use his name. He is totoally embarrassed.

Yep, but your son will get over it...........

I didn't want to either.

But, it'll probably happen one of these days.

My son just takes it all in stride, he was just a little creeped out when he met shortstopmom a few weekends ago at a tourney, but mostly he appreciates what I have learned here. Now, he wasn't creeped out by SSM, but just the whole meeting someone I "met" online thing.

My husband thinks I'm just a little obsessed with baseball......

Mine always found it amusing.

Unless I described the linear-rotational, how-to-throw-a-slider, mechanical arguement threads. Then he suggested those posters need to find something more productive to do with their time!

Then he met emeraldvlly and her lovely family in Eugene, and he decided this was a pretty great place!

All in your perspective.....

I think it’s normal that parents sometimes embarrass their children. At times they see us as being an obstacle in their ability to mature and find their independence. There is a point in their lives that our intrusion into “their space” ruffles their feathers because they think we are messing with their “private” life. Thank goodness this period is short lived. As your son matures and becomes more independent he will accept the fact that you are allowed to express your opinion no matter what that opinion is. They also realize they can ignore you without any major repercussions. I’ll share a couple of stories that hopefully will allow you to see the light at the end of the tunnel: My son’s college coach mentioned I had posted something about him (my son) on a message board. My son told the coach that he had no control over what I said and indicated he would need to talk to me if he had a problem with what I had posted. Of course nothing happened and it became a non issue with all parties.

Another story happened just this week. I got an email from another Webster indicating our sons were on the same team. We exchanged information and we both mentioned this to our sons. The boys talked about their “common ground” so maybe our posting information over the years helped establish some sort of rapport between two teammates.

Well let's just say that three years ago, when I told my son I was going to fly to California (from PA) to "meet" some great mom's I had been corresponding with from the HSBB site he told me "Mom, I can just imagine what YOU would say if I told YOU that I was flying across the country to meet some internet buddies!" Big Grin And you know what...he was RIGHT! Wink Three years later, my whole family just takes it in stride...actually, my husband and I are going to be vacationing in November WITH another baseball mom from this site and her husband! Smile

Mine can't figure out exactly why I go online. He and daughter seem to consider cyber networking the province of their generation. That, and an old friend of mine met both husband #2 and #3 online. Kind of creepy. I have explained that there is a ton of information on this site that I can't get locally. Most of the bball moms (and dads) I know here are either pretty clueless, or full of drama. I like their company -- I just want some helpful opinions sometimes. That, and I find you all to be wonderfully smart, and funny too. Though my son may think it a bit weird that I am on this site everyday, he too was disappinted that Orlando's son was promoted, and we didn't get to visit with her here in Eugene. I suspect he was hoping to find out if other moms are as weird as his! (Not that he thinks Orlando is "weird" -- but he heard stories from Orlando Jr.!)

My kids use to find my spending time here quite amusing! My son would occasionally say "you didn't share that on HSBBW did you!". LOL Typically the answer was "yes". Few forums like this one.

The very first poster I ever met off of the site was Fungo (have been blessed to meet several more since then). My daughter's response to my son and I meeting the Fungo family was "you're going to meet someone you met on the internet". LOL "Do as I say... not as I do!" Wink

Good point, luv. Big Grin

Hmmmm... I have plans to attend a ballgame with FuturebackMom this weekend. Anybody done a background check on her? (Or one on me to send to her?) Don't want to end up on an MSNBC special....

Em, if Will wasn't convinced I'm weird, Aeden didn't tell him nearly enough stories!

Talking to my son on one of those long busrides, I first told him that Prepster's son was a teammate. So over the line I hear, "Hey, Rob, my Mom and your Dad are talking about us on that website of theirs!" "Cool!" As Fungo says, they get used to our little quirks....much as we get used to theirs.
