I know some of your seasons have just begun, but our regular season is over. Son’s high school team received a bid to the State Playoffs (we are so thrilled). The season went by so fast, it seems like it began just a week ago. Team record is 18 wins, 11 losses; 8 of the losses were by 1 run, the balance by 2 runs. All of these losses could have gone either way. This was hard on the boys, but they never gave up and came back like champs in the end. The team travels to North Louisiana next Thursday (4 hours away) for their first state playoff game. I will brag a little on my son. High school sophomore, starter 2nd baseman and pitcher, batting average over 500 in district play. Hit a grand slam last week. Took him a little while to get going, but when he got going, there was no stopping him. My nephew is the short stop on the team and he also did really well, hit great, played the last 3 games with a broken nose which is broken in two places. He never missed a beat, still playing great defense and hitting well. He will have surgery as soon as baseball season is over. I am very proud of my son and his team. We played a few teams this season who had no respect for each other, their coaches, their parents, the umpires, or the opposing team. It made me realize how blessed we are to have such a great group of kids who love and respect the game.

louisiana ....

May I be the first to congratulate your son and nephew and their team for a great season and the opportunity to go to state play-offs. I must admit that it does seem early as the So Cal kids won't finish till May (and we have NO state play-off ... too big, I think).

I liked this comment:

I honestly think that is half the battle these days with young people who play the game ... not all respect it and love it, but when they do, they never give up.

Congrats again.

Congrats on making the playoffs. We have 3 games left and then playoffs begin. Son is a senior and it seems like his FRESHMAN season began just a week ago. Soak up every tiny drop of it - good or bad - they will be leaving home before you know what hit you.

Congrats Louisiana!

I'm with Redhead. We have 3 games left and my son is a senior. Savor the moments. They pass entirely too fast. Seems like yesterday we were in Little League, and now the high school season is drawing to a close. I have many sweet memories that will sustain me for a long while. 14

I can still remember his first year of t-ball like it was yesterday. I am hoping he goes to our local university or at least stays in state. I don't know what I will do if I can't see his face everyday. Of course his dream is to play college ball, so I guess he will go where that road leads him (hopefully he gets that chance). I am savoring every moment, never missing a game and still stopping by at practice. If it were up to me, my boys would never leave home.

Two very important points that are often taken for granted until it's too late.

Good luck and enjoy the ride!
