Just saw where Dana Reeves died. I hadn't realized that her cancer was that progressive. I think she was an extraordinary woman who touched many lives. Prayers for her family and especially her teenage son. cry

Dana had lung cancer. She was a non-smoker.

May she rest in peace.

Extra prayers for her (barely) teenage son--he's only 13. It's so tragic...

Wow ... I am shocked. I too realized that she was battling lung cancer but had no idea she was in such an advanced stage. Many prayers for her son as he copes with this double tragedy of dealing with her illness and now her death, coupled with the loss of his dad not that long ago.

To be 13 and have lost both parents. Totally, tragic! Prayers to family and friends. What an inspiration this woman was in her short life.

Saw a news clip last night of Dana Reeves singing at a function sometime within the 7 months since her diagnosis. She really had a beautiful voice and based upon her composure and decorum, one would never know she was battling a fatal disease.

In this day and age when so many take their marriage vows so lightly, giving up at the seeming blink of an eye when things aren't going the way they think they "should", when personal "wants" (not needs) aren't being met, yada yada yada, Dana Reeves gave a whole new meaning to 'for better or worse, in sickness and in health'. She and Christopher Reeves have left their son with a powerful legacy of real courage and determination and dedication. My heart is so sad for him ... but I know he will have many wonderful memories of his loving parents to help sustain him as he deals with his losses.

FBM....what a good post. Yes, their son does have a special legacy....and once he gets past the grieving....he won't miss them any less, but he will have their examples of strength, love and committment to remember....but how very difficult it must be for him now.

FBM - I agree wholeheartedly! I think they were such an inspiring example of love and commitment. What they shared as a couple truly touches my heart and as you say, I'm sure their son will always be blessed with those memories.

Their son is the same age as mine. I lost my father when I was 16 and my mother when I was 30. I can't even imagine what that poor kid is going through! Frown
