HI all. I figured this would be a great place to find women interested in playing baseball. There are leagues all across the country, but I play in the CA women's baseball league. We are looking for players for this season...anyone interested?

I'm not, way to old and besides, I throw like a girl, but I just sent you a private message! Welcome to not only the hsbaseballweb, but the Ladies Lounge!

I was on the local Little League board for many years, and one of my little jobs on the board was to run the Little League festivities on the Forth of July, like the parade and we also had a "speed pitch" booth, where we would clock three "throws" with a radar gun. Three throws for a dollar, with prizes for the fastest throw in the different age categories.

My youngest daughter was 6, I think, and she wanted to throw. Ok, she did pretty well. My turn. But I waited until most of the people left, I really didn't want to embarrass myself in front of many people.

Well. That 6 year old girl threw faster than I could.... Yep, I was pretty embarrassed! So that is that. I can catch, but I throw like a girl. I'm definitely not a 5 tool player!

Welcome to the HSBBW ...

I would consider it but the last time I played anything that remotely resembled baseball, I was catching my cousin, the LHP, and caught the baseball in my mouth instead of the mitt. My mouth is still swollen and that was 47 years ago. I think I will pass but I can run the snack bar for you.

That's kind of you to volunteer. It's always good to have the snack bar going!!!!! I'll work a shift, if you need people.

thanks for offering to volunteer. I am sure we could use the help. Are you in CA?

On another note, I noticed on your profile that your son is with the Diamondbacks. Good luck to him. My fiance started there too.

I am in So Cal ... a bit of a commute for a volunteer position but if I can deduct my gasoline expenses on my taxes, I am there.

Son was drafted 9th round 04 and is presently in AA Mobile (second season there). Name is A J Shappi. Who is your fiance? When was he drafted & where is he now?

My 15 year old daughter played for the San Francisco Fillies a year ago. Great experience for her. She got picked up by an Australian National Team and went to Florida. I wish the whole thing had been better organized as she was really developing as a pitcher. And San Francisco is a whole lot closer than Australia!

Unfortunately, there are other sports that are more girl-friendly around here. Daughter was very discouraged when the high school baseball coach said she could "try out" for the freshman team..but beyond that, league rules prevented her from playing beyond freshman year. She turned to hoops and is concentrating on that. However, her first love has always been pitching a baseball..not a softball. She never understood the attraction of softball.

Good luck finding a bunch of girls willing to put in the time. My daughter would have been first to sign up..but she wanted to play sports in highschool..so there ya go.
