Next year I'll be going to Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, IL. Now there's a travel team called the Orland Magic who I don't play for but know many people from. What I heard is that people from the Magic team always make the Sandburg team and that nobody else really can. It really sucks and I don't know what to do when I heard it's all politics. I think the coach knows me because he asked who I was in a fall league and I will be going to the summer camp too. This year, the whole team was Magic kids excpet for one. Is there anything else I can do?

I am new to the site and just saw your note. How did it work out for you? Did you get on the HS team? My son has also had to deal with his share of politics being the new kid in town.

If the coach noticed you in the Fall League and you will be going to the summer camp, make sure that you introduce your self again at the camp as a Sandburg High incoming Freshmen. Don't worry about the Magic influence on the team...you can't do anything about that.

IMO do what you can in the areas that you know you have control over. Work very hard in preparation for your Freshman year and make sure you are early for practice and stay late.

Make baseball a "personal" competition between yourself and the "game". In other words "master" the game. Work on your skills and be supportive of your teammates. The rest will fall in place.
