I have always done one arm swings, but i never fully understood what they do for you as a hitter. Can someone please explain to me what they do for you.

I guess no one will chime in on this one. I'll give you some feedback. First, you have to determine what your goal is from a one arm swing. I don't particular like all of the ones I've seen demonstrated at various clinics. However, I really like ones that are one armed in nature but that involve in some context, maintaining a "box" and then releasing through the ball. In saying this, these types of one arm swings also incorporate setting a swing plane, having the ability to take your lead elbox and deltoid region on that plane as you swing and naturally contact. I hope this makes sense. I'm not real big on top hand one arm swings.

I can tell you that from experience, certain one armed swings have really helped me develop my swing. I like them a lot.
