Wondering what the HSBBW opinions are regarding wood bats vs. composite. What do you all think should be the next best purchase. 2010 son just broke his last wood bat and we're gonna have to buy a new one...question is...what do we lay out the cash for?

Just be aware that you can not use composite bats in WWBA or many wood bat tournaments.

It seems that your batter is making contact on the weak spot (Label) of the bat causing it to crack or break.

Make contact on the side with the sweet spot and bats will last far longer.

I am not sure if you are supposed to. Sort of takes part of the game away for pitchers. I am sure that you can't use them in MLB and WWBA competition is supposed to be the closest to that experience out of HS. Collegite Summer ball teams don't use composite either I believe.

Connie Mack League does not allow composite also I believe.

They are great for BP but I don't believe they are approved for many game situations. I could be wrong but that has always been my understanding...

All Perfect Game events definitely allow composite bats.

Not sure if this is important to you but composite bats seem to have less pop.

At wwba events they allow composite bats. Either that or they don't care to check.
I just came back from a wwba event and the majority of wood bats that I saw were composite bats

Just purchased a Baum bat for my son as he moved up in size and I figured I would save a few $$ on broken bats. He loves it and says it has more "pop" than his old maple..... My opinion is that the extra inch and 10lbs of body mass created the pop, but he likes it. The HS program has them and has not broken one. Cost is around $160 but they are pretty much unbreakable.
