Quick quiz:

According to MLB.com, the following are the stat lines for the player you are maligning over the past 10 games, and for the likely AL MVP over the past 10 games. Can you guess which one is which?

7-39, 0 HR, 3 RBI

6-37, O HR, 2 RBI

Moral: Anyone can have a rough patch. And batting averages fall faster when you haven't had as many AB's.

But the likely AL MVP doesn't look like the guy on the right when he swings.

Look, I don't expect Ankiel to be the next A-Rod.

That's not the point.

The point is, it's way too early to be drawing conclusions about where Ankiel's career is going.

Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong. But to suggest a few weeks' data proves it one way or the other is really kind of silly.

3 for 5 yesterday and just got another hit.

Numbers are the same as in AAA even with the slump.

See how silly this is,it will take time to accurately judge his talents.

I also agree that his mechanics could be better. He will also go through more slumps.

If they get him with the right people this Winter, he will get his swing tweaked and he will be right back next season hitting .300 plus and 25 or more HRs. He's a hard worker and now that he's had a taste of MLB pitching, he knows more about what needs to be fixed.

Not that he's contending for the Triple Crown or anything, but Ankiel is on pace for 30+ HR's and 80+ RBI.

Put that together with his defense and you have a pretty darned good package in CF.

... and another HR tonight.

You know what they call guys who hit .265 with 30+ HR's and 80+ RBI?

Answer: Millionaires!

.265(.266 now) with 18,(19 now) homeruns before the allstar break from a retired pitcher,1 year back. Not quite a hall of famer Big Grin but not to shabby considering the path.

We were discussing this at the ball field tonight, the general consensus was he will be a .300 hitter before he is done.If he reaches that and maintains his homerun power,it will be one of the greatest stories in baseball history IMO.

3-3 tonight with number 20,numbers seem to be just fine for a retired pitcher. Big Grin

I agree his swing needs some work to get to the .300 mark but if you don't see some changes in his swing, you haven't been watching. Wink

At this point in time I do not think the Cardinals are worried about Ankiels swing---for them it is working fine---you know the old story---do not try to fix what isnt broke !!!

1 for 8 before last night.....

You gotta hit better pitching to get to .300.....You won't see enough weak pitching in MLB to get you there....
