What do you think about using the parachute to increase batspeed? How much does it really help you?

I personally believe it alters mechanics and I would not recommend it.

Just as sprinting with parachutes will shorten stride-length in most users, it is extremely difficult to maintain swing mechanics with the parachute.

It is an easy sell however because at first glance it "makes sense" and has a cool factor.

But remember if you are training improper mechanics what are you really doing?

You might want to try swinging a slightly heavier bat in practices and other non-game situations. Not so heavy that it will mess up the mechanics of your swing, but heavy enough that the bat you use in a game will feel lighter, giving you greater bat speed.

i would recommend using a parachute to help increases bat speed the day we swing with parachutes attached to bats in a game.

One of the best tools for building bat speed is taking numerous hacks with a donut on your bat. Just make sure you keep your swing the same. It can make your swing long, so make sure you don't tire yourself out too much with it. Also, even though wood bats are usually (-3), they feel heavier than an aluminum bat. Taking BP and hitting off the tee with a wood bat will surely help your bat speed, among other things.
Hope this helps.

Agree with the second part but not the first. Hitting with a wood bat helps alot. Maybe even get a woob bat 1 inch bigger than your normal bat and choke up with 1/2 inch.

Core development is also significant in bat speed.

Some good tips.

Core strength that translates over to the diamond will increase bat speed significantly.

The key is the ability to maintain posture and teaching your body to move effeciently and effectively. Most "core" programs miss this one big time.

Wood bats are great as they help teach game bat speed, mainly due to mechanical improvements. They key is not to get a great bad speed on a meter, but again, the ability to do it in a game situation.

It amazes me how little some of today's practice and training prepare players for game situations.
