What are some appropriate timing adjustments hitters use to delay the trigger on changeups and slower fastballs? HS freshman son is starting to see more offspeed early in the count and has always been taught to look fastball, so his timing breaks down a bit on slow stuff. Do good offspeed hitters look for slow stuff, or do they adjust their lower half mechanics upon recognition of the pitch? Would you generally teach slowing/delaying the down stride, or holding longer on toe touch prior to foot plant?

This is why "dead hands hitting" is a killer as you move up the ladder and face better pitching. Bat tipping is one way to get the hands moving, but not commiting. The same goes for coiling of the hips. When you get these things moving in opposite directions, it gives you more room to adjust without stopping your momentum before you shift your weight.
