I know I once started a forum about something similar, but here's a question I ask to all who spend hours (myself included) analyzing swings, arguing online about mechanics, etc.

If we all looked at Manny swing, or Pujols, and Mauer- wouldn't everyone say that is a fine, mechanically correct swing? If we agree that these swings are good (or great) then on which mechanical problems do we disagree on? Do you think that most people here actually (may be tough to believe) agree about mechanics but just have different way of phrasing it?

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True.
And the Grand Canyon is just a hole in Arizona.

There are different schools of thought based on the combination (Load, Stride/Weigh Shift, Hips and Shoulders, Swing and Followthrough) of facets in a good swing.

If we take the three examples given,

Joe Mauer
Height: 6' 5" , Weight: 220 lb

Albert Pujols
Height: 6' 3" , Weight: 210 lb.

Manny Ramirez
Height: 6' 0" , Weight: 190 lb.

the assumption would be that all having just as effective a swing that the bigger guy would have the better numbers or at least better power numbers.

Comparing all at Maurer's age 26

Joe Maurer

58 HR 343 RBI

Albert Pujols

250 HR 758 RBI

Manny Ramirez

154 HR 517 RBI

There must be differences between the swings or ability of the players because the bigger guy does not have the best numbers.

There are differences in the swings endorsed as simple as the grip in holding and swinging the bat.

Batspeed, some have more then others, regardless of mechanics. Some mechanics will get more batspeed out of you than others.
