I asked this question in Main Topics and threw a no hitter.
Why is bat speed not routinely measured? If it is measured what are good speeds? In pitching the number is 90mph.Is it the same in bat speed?

Because it doesn't mean much.

Some with good batspeed can't hit.

Some with poor batspeed can hit.

Concentrating on improving batspeed is a recipe for a poor swing IF you don't know what you're doing.

Concentrate on bat quickness and measure that.

IF you "get it" then work on your batspeed.

Linear when you mean quickness you mean how fast you take you bat through the zone, correct?

You can be quick and fast, quick and slow, or quick and anything in between. Obviously, quick and fast is best.

But, you can't be slow and fast, slow and slow or slow and anything in between.

Jim Lefebvre has a device that measures bat speed and he uses it regularly at Scottsdale Community College at the Jim Lefebvre Baseball Training Center. He uses it with guys as young as 11 and 12 through a large number of college and professional players, including some very accomplished Major Leaguers. It is easy to use and very cool to watch.

If you are interested, get in touch with Jim and I am sure he will be happy to work your son into his program. The Chinese National Team will be out there every day for a couple of weeks beginning tomorrow. A lot of Big League scouts will drop in and out.
