For fall baseball, you pretty much can't go wrong playing for any of the local showcase teams. Most, from what I know, travel to a couple of tournaments out of town, and play some local tournaments and college teams on the remaining weekends. Oriolanders is the cream of the crop, IMO, but they carry quite a few players from what I recall. To maximize a players exposure, find a fall team that doesn't have 25 players on it.

Sorry Larry, BUT.... I see no need at this time to present a huge history lesson here, (and hats off to Jimmy G), yet another view point says to add about another 30+ years (of 56 yrs) of rich amateur Baltimore baseball history. Of course the original south Baltimore team name has changed over the years, yet let's remember each and includes: - Leone's (sponsored by brothers of family restaurant in south Baltimore. Dominic, Tony and Vince Leone) - Johnnies (sponsored by Johnny Wilbanks) - Corrigan's (sponsored by ex Leone's pitcher Bill Corrigan) - Youse's Orioles (may Walter rest in peace) - Maryland Orioles (supported by the big league team) And as brought up from time to time, at the ball park, and probably in a rain delay, names of many individuals who played, scouted, managed, GM, or passed through with the amateur club and were in and around the big leagues. (Hope I did not forget any..... and should you recall some, please add to list.... maybe it's time to start a complete list?) Willie Aikens Dean Albany** Brian Bark Dave Boswell Mike Cavanaugh David Clay Doug Creek Joel Cressler Jim Foit Gavin Floyd* Rusty Gerhardt Jimmy Gilbert Norm Gilden Wayne Gomes Moose Haas Joey Hamilton Paul Hartzel Roy Heiser George Henderson Gene Hiser Ray Flanigan Jason King** Todd Jones* Reggie Jackson HoF Al Kaline HoF Joe Kerrigan Joe Klein Jim Lehew Mike Leone** Phil Linz John Mabry* Mel Montgomery John Miller Ray Muehl - original manager Denny Neagle Tim Nordbrook** Tim Norris** Tom Phoebus Chuck Porter Cal Ripken Charles Sands Joe Sargent** Chuck Scrivener John Schuerholz HoF Larry Sheets** Barry Shetrone Paul Shuey Kirt Siebert Brick Smith Greg Smith Jim Spencer John Stefero Rick Steirer Burt Sutter Weldin Swift Ron Swift Ron Swoboda Scooter Tucker Bernie Walter Jay Witasick Walter Youse - longest coach Butch Wynegar *active MLB ** current coach cheers Bear

Gosh Bear...no need to be sorry, since I am right. I was talking about the Orioleanders fall baseball team. I first knew about them when Gilbert coached the team, and then when Dean took over. If you want me to talk about the Maryland Orioles, formerly Youse's Orioles, formerly Corrigans, formerly Johnnies, formerly Leones...than I can do that as well. As a player in the 80's in this area, I played for Wagner's and then Reggie Smith's Presstman Cardinals teams in 85 and 86. Mel Montgomery was one of the Johnnie's coaches in '85 and '86. Our Cardinals teams owned Johnnies those two years, winning the Baltimore City championship both years, and beating Johnnies in the best of three series each year. They had great players, we had great players (except me of course). So...where was I wrong?
