Congrats to the Maryland Monarchs as they just won the 2009 NABF 18U National Championship.

Congrats to the MD Monarchs! 2009 NABF champs (wood bat).

By the 3rd day of the tournament they were 2-2 but were able to get into the championship bracket along with 7 other teams. In their 1st game in the championship round they defeated the St. Louis Tigers 8-1. in the semi-finals the Monarchs beat the NY Nine 6-4 to move to the championship game against the 96ers Blue Team. In the championship game the Monarchs soundly defeated the 96ers 12-5.

Mt St. Mary's Left handed pitcher Brady Feigl stood out in the tournament pitching 9 innings and striking out 18, allowing zero hits, zero runs. Brady also pitched in the last 2 innings of the championship game. While warming up he was clocked at 90-94 MPH. The 96ers nor the NY Nine had a chance against him.

NorthEast 2009 grad Tyler Drinkert gave the Monarchs a 4-0 lead with zero outs in the 1st inning of the semi-final game against the NY Nine when he hit a grandslam over the scoreboard at Smith-Wills stadium. It was an incredible 400 ft shot.

Stephen Jenkins Arundel High CF & 2010 grad led the Monarchs in the tournament in BAVG and RBIs knocking in 9 runs overall during the tourney and 4 in the championship game alone against the 96ers.

Monarchs pitching really came through. Feigl started with 6in of no hit ball and 14ks in the first game and Brooks Miller closed. Bronakoski pitched 6in in the 2nd game, struggling in the 1st a lil, but settled down well giving up only 2 earned runs with 7ks, and Ryan Nichols closed. Third game was the only game the pitching really struggled as 7 walks led to 6 runs. Final pool play game Haslup pitched very well against 96ers Blue team that made it to the championship-well enough to win but team didnt come through. Touched 88mph a handful of times. First elimination game Aumann threw very well and did an excellent job of mixing up pitches. Second elimination game was against a very tough New York Nine team that had around 10 current college players on its roster. Miller started and threw 3in and gave way to Bronakoski who after giving up the tying run in his first inning, held the other team scoreless through the rest of his 4 in of relief. Only gave up 2 groundball basehits and a bunt base hit while throwing consistently upper 80's with alot of 88's and 89's on one day rest. Feigl came in and was pretty dominant during his 6 out save throwing a consistent 88-92. Championship game was pitching by comittee with tired arms, and Haslup started going 2, followed by Nichols who went 4, Aumann who went 1 2/3, and Feigl who closed again with a 4 out save. Feigl touched as high as 94 in his outing. Supposedly the gun at the stadium was around 2mph slow, meaning he may have hit as high as 96, and that the Monarchs may have had 3 pitchers throw 90+ in the tournament. Job well done! Hitters came through with countless clutch hits throughout. Very exciting week
