Ive seen them play, i wasnt impressed at all. They would be a decent D2 or D3 team, but i dont really think they have the D1 Talent. they had a few stand out players, but other then that not to much to be looked at. Maryland isnt known for baseball, and thats a good reason why they most likely will never be known for baseball.

pudge...i disagree. uofm is a bonafide division I program that plays in one of the top 3 conferences in the country. the record may not represent your standard for division I baseball, but they have some very good talent down in college park. i'd be interested to know what you consider a division I program in the area? maryland has had several kids drafted in the past couple of years, and probably would have had another high draft pick this year (maxwell) if he hadn't been injured and sat out all year.

Thanks, Tom, for setting it right. This was a tough season for the Terrapins, between injuries and some team dissension, which led to several transfers. There is also the ongoing problem with the level of support given to the team by the administration - the baseball team is still not fully funded.
However, it is a D-1 ACC team, and Maryland has many talented players, as well as a good incoming freshman crop.

Terp - 2004 June Draft include:

Justin Maxell OF - 10th rnd (RS Jr in 2005)
Kevin Hart RHP - 11th rnd (Sr in 2005)
Chris Bowen LHP - 29th rnd (Sr in 2005)
Ryan Moorer RHP - 13rd rnd (Fr in 2005)
Anthony Buffone Util - 22nd rnd will sign

There will be soon be a correct talley, my list predicted about fifteen+ Maryland HS, JUCO, and College draftable players in 2004.

Although scholarships at UoM is not fully funded yet [ie gender equity], the refurbishment of Shipley Field for 2004-2005, and a quality recruiting year in the fall of 2004, the Terp Baseball program coulda / shoulda / woulda see potential 35 win season in 2005.

Plenty of 2005 Terp Senior signs.

2005 draft predicts includes:
Justin Maxell OF
Kevin Hart RHP
Chris Bowen LHP
Will Frazier OF
Chris Clem RHP
Sean Kane RHP
Josh Andrews LHP
Bobby Ryan C
Justin Hulse RHP
Truan Mahl OF
Matt Maropis MInf
Elliot Singletary MInf

cheers
Bear

ps. To the rising HS Junior from Fredneck .....a few has seen some skills behind the dish. What is being said is there remains plenty of margin to get it done in the classroom! Get to work!

I was just going on what i have seen of them play, and i was not impressed. I saw them play a month or so ago, at harry grove stadium, when they played NC state, and i do understand that they do play in one of the best baseball conference's in the country. And that their baseball program is not funded that well. I was just going on my experience from watchin them. Didnt mean to stir up all this commotion

The proverbial, what games were you watching, applies here!

The Terp vs NC State in Frederick on April 10, 2004 were two days of good college baseball games with excellent pitching and displays of amateur talent and from several high round draft picks!

G1 featured NC St P Michael Rogers - 2nd round pick of the Oakland A's, an oopher evening by NC St 1b David Hicks (36th rnd by the Blue Jays), and a three fer by Terps util Anthony Buffone (22nd rnder)

G2 featured a pitchers dual between NC St Vern Sterry (8th round by San Diego) and Terps Kevin Hart (11th round)

G3 the second game of the Sat DH due to forecasted storms on Sunday, revealed the Terps defensive infield troubles.

The best part of the weekend was observing a pleasant surprise from two Terp freshman LHP tossing an inning a piece of shut out ball from the bull pen vs top ranked NC State.

Regards

It's funny, to me the best part of the day when UM/NC State played, was the first game of the day when St. John's at Prospect Hall beat Bishop Walsh!

Hahaha. Just teasing.

Anyway, I thought it was great that UM played so many games at the different venues this year. Although it was hard on them because every game was an "away game", I felt like it was a great way for them to promote their program throughout the state.

Needless to say, we're big Jordan Wilson fans here!
