Scott Silverstein, a 2008 graduate of St. John’s College High School, was diagnosed Wednesday at Sibley Hospital with a torn labrum. The attending doctor, Ben Shaffer (Washington Nationals Orthopedic Surgeon), performed a scope of Silverstein's shoulder due to continued soreness.

Silverstein, who was drafted by the Washington Nationals last week in the 32nd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball first-year player draft, is expected to be able to make a successful recovery after an eight-month rehabilitation program. Silverstein (6-5, 210) will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall and is expected to pitch for the baseball team in February 2009.

Sorry to hear about your son's devastating injury.
He does have a chance to receive a first rate education at UVA, though. Good luck with everything.

I know Scott was disappointed not to be on the hill for his senior season. It's a tribute to him that he was drafted even with that situation. I hope this means he can look forward to three pain free and successful years in Charlottesville and then onward and upward.
