Mr. Walters has resigned from the Head coaching job at Arundel, and has taken over the position of Director of Baseball Operations at the University of Maryland! Congratulations go out as I know this really means alot to him. Great to see UMD is really making an effort to turn the program around and it should really pan out for them over the upcoming years.

What does a Director of Baseball Operations for a university do? Do other programs have such a position? I'll do some investigating.

Ok...it seems most prominent programs have such a position. At first I thought it may be a fancy title for an assistant coach emeritus, but it appears the person will have real oversight duties with respect to the baseball program. Perhaps MD is going to make a real effort to support the baseball program and new coaching staff?

Looks so. They now have a full staff and I do believe that they will be wearing the stirrups next year

What a great move on UMd's part. What a dream team they're putting in place there at Terpville. I think the world of Coach Walter and I wish him only the best.

I've seen DBO positions used to handle all of the administrative tasks required to free the coaches to coach and recruit (ie. scheduling planes/buses, handling hotel reservations, making sure recruiting trip logs are filled out, handling the myriad university or ncaa compliance forms, etc).

Is this what Coach Walter is going to do or something else?

Congrats to Bernie. He is a class act who has done wonders for High School baseball in this state. I believe he will also will do wonders with Turtle Baseball.
