Our school was supposed to redo the whole baseball field (level it) and told me not to worry about maintaining it. So it was let go over the summer. Now they are saying they are only going to do the outfield so obviously the infield rim has grown into the base path. After I edge it does anyone have any knowledge on how to get the grass up other than a hula hoe because that will leave a lip at this point.

Find one of your parents who has a "manta" garden tiller....these are small garden type tillers and are light and do not dig down too deep. The cutting swath is about 10 inches.....It will remove the grass well below the roots and mix up the infield mix so it can be raked level....

I got one of these for fathers day a few years ago and it has been used on more baseball fields than in my garden...........

Rent a walk behind sod cutter. Set it to cut shallow and it acts as an automated hula hoe. Then just go back and rake up the weeds. It will also do a great job edging in the process.
