It was our 5th game in the beginning of our 3rd day in a tournament. I caught the first 3 of 4 games and we were out of pitching so I was asked to pitch and in the first inning I threw a curveball with 2 outs and my deltoid area started to hurt in a specific spot. It wasn't a sharp pain but it wasn't dull. I asked my coach to pull me out and he did so I went to 1st for the rest of the game. When it happened I didn't feel or hear a pop in my arm so hopefully that's a good thing. My coach says that it is probably just a tear or pull in a muscle. I am scared because in our last tournament, a pitcher broke his arm while throwing the ball and you could hear the pop.

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks!
Mike

Good thing that you stopped pitching but you should have taken yourself out completely. 5 games in 3 days and caught for 3 games and then went into pitch? nono
A pitcher broke his arm while throwing in a game?
JUST a tear or pull in your muscle? Is your coach perhaps a doctor?

And we wonder why our young players have so many injuries. Frown

No one here can tell you what is going on.

I would give your arm a rest for a few days, any discomfort, head straight to the doctor. You just may have done too much in a short period of time.

I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and it was diagnosed as a pulled lateral tricep. I tried throwing again the other day and it was fine. And today I was catching a bullpen and I felt another twinge. This is so frustrating....

So well said...it's so very sad the state of affairs in youth baseball today.

Peace and God's Blessings...

Dear Youngn08:

I know you don't want to hear this, and sitting out at your age will make you feel like you're going to miss something in your baseball career, however, you need to take a LONG rest.

Missing summer and fall ball this year is not going to make or break your career, although you probably feel that it will. You need to heal. Around January, you can ease back in and before you know it, you'll be back on track. However, if you continue to aggravate your "pull" it could become a chronic condition that might require surgery and it could indeed hamper or end your career.

Take a break, get with a personal traniner who understands your pull and can help you rehab. If you can afford rehab with a trainer, take the advice of your doctor and take some time off. Time will typically heal your pull.

And stop catching three games in a row, or find a new team with a coach that knows how to NOT injure his players.

Peace and God's Blessings...
Shane
