hey everyone, just needed to write this down.

I had been having nagging shoulder soreness/pain for some time (since November) that came and went as it pleased. But last week it became unbearable, right after I threw a bullpen where my pitching coach said he had not seen me throw so well in a LONG time and also said that after seeing me throw that well he expected me to have a monster year.

Well, then after the session my dad had few words..he also thought that was the hardest and best I had thrown in a long time too. As a pitcher, doing what I have been told to do since little league, when the pain set in I bared down and kept throwing.

After complaining of the pain in my shoulder (in the AC joint) I went to the doctor. After doing his tests of strength and range of motion he said he thought I had either strained or pulled the AC joint, but said I should get an MRI just to be sure. Well I got the MRI done yesterday and with tryouts beginning Friday I will find out the results of the MRI either tomorrow or Friday. Wondering how long I will be out for is killing me

The doctor called today and revealed the results of the MRI....I have a SLAP tear. Done for the season indefinitely...summer too. I should be back 6months from the time I get surgery, after surgery I spend 3-4weeks in a sling and afterwards I have physical therapy. I just hope that I can find a college to play at..

I am really sorry to hear of your injury. This is a very tough time for you...is this also your senior year? My Son is missing his senior year also, he fractured a bone in his knee, but his rehab is nothing compared to what you are going to go through. My heart goes out to you, you can overcome this adversity with the determination that you posess.

shppirate09- let me offer some insite. i'm sitting here in a sling myself after my surgery on feb8. i unfortunately had a slap and rotator tear and its longer way bacfrom from this. there is a college shortstop i know that is now coming back from his slap and hopes to play 5 months after his procedure. i only hope to throw some bp. we both did pre-surgery conditioning that they say helped in coming back. they started stretching me 2 weeks after the cut. that is tough work even for a couple of inch movement. you need to educate yourself with a search on this site. it got me through some hard days knowing more about what was going on inside my shoulder.
the good part is you are young and your muscles heal fast as long as you take care of them and do what the drs say.
as far as the college part after the injury, you will need to get some more knowledgeable people on this site to point you in the right direction.
good luck. pm me if you want any specifics. good luck

My son is a junior college shortstop that is exactly 6 months out from his labrum surgery on non-throwing arm. At his appointment yesterday, the doctor was in awe that he has actually strengthened his 'surgeried' ? arm to be slightly stronger than his normal arm Smile and it's pretty strong. The key to a great recovery rate is strict physical therapy and not rushing getting back. IT is a very slow, tedious, and oftentimes depressing process to go through.

On an open surgery, there is so much that has to heal back, as opposed to arthroscopic repair.

Son will get to play his college sophomore year this coming season.
Be sure to find the best sports orthopedic surgeon that has experience with baseball players. Good luck to you!!
