Many of you probably read my post in this forum that told my story of my ACL tear while pitching. This forum is just to get the general opinions of recovery time. I'm in no way looking to rush this recovery being 20 and still having much of life and baseball ahead of me. My doctor tells me 6 months untill I can play again for my team. 6 months from operation is February 1st, when my Spring Season officially kicks off. Other Physical therapists and doctors have said to wait at least 9 months to make sure. My prediciment is that I could possibly be ready for this coming season so I can avoid a redshirt, or take the redshirt to ensure safety but miss the year despite my doctors 6 month opinion. Has anyone else experienced this recovery first hand? Any opinions would help.

Throw90+, If I am not mistaken medical redshirts are granted after the season, so if you come back in time you can play if the doctors release you and the coaches decide they have space for you on their roster.

My son had his ACL replaced Sept. 29, 2008 and the doctor released him to play on March 15, 2009. He went through PT and was told it would take about a full year for complete recovery. The physical part was healed but the mental part is what took the longest time to repair. He Redshirted his Freshman year of college and now is back to full health and played all this last summer. He feels that he is about 95% of his ability at this point, but sometimes he doesn't "trust his knee" that is the mental part.
