I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this before. My son is a junior in HS...6'3, 220 pound RHP. About 3 years ago as an 8th grader, he was warming up prior to starting a game on the mound and felt a "pop" in his shoulder which caused him significant pain. I took him to see a shoulder specialist who said his internal rotation needed to be increased through physical therapy and that the shoulder strength needed to be increased with band work. He did PT for 4 weeks, came back and pitched the last 6 weeks of the season without a problem. After taking a few m onths off, he began throwing in December to prepare for his freshman season in HS. He threw until March without any problem, and then while taking infield at first base he made kind of an awkward throw to 2nd base on a double play and felt the "pop" again. The trainer at the school shut him down for 2 weeks and then cleared him to throw off the mound again. He threw several bullpens and was fine. He then started a game on the mound and threw 19 pitches before having to be removed saying that it felt like his shoulder was grinding. I took him back to the same shoulder specialist who ordered an MRI. The MRI showed no rotator cuff or labrum damage. The diagnosis was tendonitis inthe bicep tendon and the "popping" he was feeling was the bicep tendon actually sliding out of it's groove because of the tigtness of the shoulder. He went through more PT and since that time has done band work religiously. He continued toplay 1st base and 3rd base without any problems and began pitching again in June of that year. He pitched for his varsity team as a sophomore last spring and pitched last summer and fall without any problems. He was one of 5 juniors in the fall to make the fall showcase team. Fast forward to yesterday....he was making his 2nd start of the spring and on his 84th pitch of the game, the "pop" happened again. It's frustrating to say the least. He has worked his butt off and has several D1 schools interested in him. When this "pop" happens, he is sore for a few days and then appears to be okay. Has anyone out there gone through this before? I'm wondering if we should try a cortisone shot to reduce the inflammation in the shoulder. In all instances, he has no pain in the shoulder at all until this "popping" occurs. If anyone has any info at all, it would be greatly appreciated as I am kind of at a loss as to what to do.

i advise you to go to the best specialist available.
I, like your son, had felt popping..i discounted the popping and kept playing I did this during spring, summer, and fall. well turns out i was playing with a shoulder problem, i would assume from overuse on account i was my teams horse (no negative connotation, i love being "the" guy)
