It has been about a month and a half since I tore my ACL warming up in the bullpen and I am now due for surgery next week after a month of pre-surger rehab. I am a 20 year old pitcher in DI and I was playing for a summer team. As I pushed off the rubber I felt as if someone smacked me in the side of my right knee (pushoff leg) and I fell down. Days later I visited a doctor who said a MRI was necessary. The results turned out I tore my ACL. The topic I am raising is that when I tell most people about how I tore my ACL (including doctors) they can't believe it. A pitcher tearing his pushoff leg's ACL. Can anyone justify whether or not this injury happens often and why? I am 20 years old, healthy, no knee problems in the past, no major surgerys, 6'4 190 lbs.

It could have been a huge combination of events or who knows. A friend of mine snapped his Achilles Tendon just from taking a small step from a patio to a walkway. My friend has powerful legs. It just happened. Fortunately he was able to recover fully after the surgery to repair it. It took him one year to recover his sprint speed and about another year to regain his agility.

That's actually a pretty common MOI for an ACL. Planting and cutting which is essentially what you did. As you went to push off, your femur went one way and your tibia went another way causing stretching and tearin of the ACL.
