Anyone keeping tabs on any 2009 grads who will be playing as freshmen in college this year? I'm excited to see how Taylor Eames does at SNHU I heard he is really throwing well inside this year. He has tons of potential.

Sean Caron made the URI team and was told he will compete for playing time. Kyle Neverman is starting at short or third for Johns Hopkins. Crutcher seems to be looking at a red-shirt situation at this point, but he should be strong when he gets on the mound at SNHU.

Mike Fransoso from Portsmouth and Steve Perakslis from Abington (MA) should see some action for UMaine.

I first met Sean Caron when he was 9, I was coaching a local team and I had drafted this 9 year old hyper kid with an absolute boat load of talent. I coached him that entire year and what a great kid he was even at 9 year olds and man did he love playing baseball. For me it is great to see such a great and talented person achieve something as special as making a D1 Roster. I am really pulling for him I hope that he has 4 great years at URI.

A 2008 Grad that I expect to have an impact in 2008 is Larry Longo over at Keene.

Keep an eye out for Shane Bauchman (Memorial) at Plymouth, I am not familar with what they have returning in terms of pitching but a team with less than 10 wins probably doesn't have a ton of pitching. Bauchman should be one of their top two arms this spring.

Johns Hopkins was mentioned above. I looked at their roster and they have 50+ players listed? Seems a bit out of the norm. Any ideas?

If we're also talking 2008 grads too, then I expect AJ Bazdanes of Nashua North and Keith Bilodeau (Bourne, MA) to have big seasons on the mound for UMaine......as well as major contributions from Taylor Lewis (Montville, CT) and Kyle Stilphen (Gardiner, ME).

Should we move on to 2007s?

Coach Merc - Coach Babb is a legendary over-recruiter. Runs a JV to try to keep them all happy but they start to drop away quickly. 21 freshman this year. They are the only ones in the conference with 5,000 students on campus so they have the spots to use. Most of the schools in the conference are half that size.

Don't forget Dylan Clark (Trinity HS Manchester,
NH) he is a Freshman at Elon University this season.

Dan Feehan & Bill Ferriter are both out of Nashua South and play on the UConn squad.

Logan Gillis, Merrimack/Lawrence Academy & Sean Lyons, Bedford/Trinity, at this point both look to get playing time. The Coach will make decisions on Red-Shirting after their Florida trip in Feb/March. Logan should get time at 3B and some at SS. Sean should get time in the OF and some at P. Currently they have 34 Players on the roster.

Quests: Does Ferriter still play for UConn? I knew he tried the football route. Just curious if he made it back on the diamond. I'm hoping he did.

I heard that Sylvester- Franklin, transferred out of BC. True? Anyone know where.

Billy Ferriter was down at Extra Innings during Winter break hitting with Brad Zappanes, Joe Breen, Ryan Gendron. He said he was back working out with UCONN. He's on the roster on the UCONN website. I'd like to see how well he does at the college level

I'm curious why would someone leave Boston College to go to SNHU. Just seems like everyones 1st choice would be to try and play in the ACC. Doesn't this kind of thing happen after you went to a school for a year and than transfer out because things just didn't work out as you expected??

There was an article a few weeks back in the Telegraph on Ferriter. He is on the roster and has a good shot at starting in the outfield. His injury precludes him from playing football again but not baseball.

I could see a kid like Sylvester trnasferring from BC to SNHU for a few reasons. Found BC too tough academically, found that playing time would be an issue there. Also he is from Franklin and used to being a big fish in a small pond and found himself a little fish in a big pond.....some kids can't handle the pressure. These are all guesses as I do not know the young man at all. Could be a totally non-baseball reason for all I know, just giving examples of why a kid would leave a D1 program.

Lots of kids are told before the winter break that they may be facing a redshirt situation and leave. Others get their 1st semester grades and find out that although they are eligible to play, the 2nd semester is gonna be real tough and opt out. Other times, they just see the writing on the wall for the first time and realize they may be in over their heads.

Logan Gillis played for me after meeting him here on the hsbaseballweb. What a great kid, awesome family. He accepted Coach McFee's offer that summer and will be a solid player at NE. He is one tough kid who plays hard every inning. He leaves it all on the field.

Checked the Elon update on another site and there was no mention of Clark for this season. Thats not to say when he gets a chance he doesn'tput himself in a good spot.

I have never met him, but the source who told me he is switching to SNHU is pretty rock-solid!

Sylvester did transfer to SNHU. The Penmen are stockpiling some good NH arms.
