Check out this play at the plate from our recent game at URI. Impressive that the ump keeps his eye on the play while falling down to make a call. And to his defense, I was in the press box with about 10-15 college coaches who all said the runner was out too. Still funny.

Play at the plate!

Great video. Umpire kept his concentration despite the slip and fall. Good uniform and looks professional. Where are they from?

1) turf looks a little bit slippery (but what a SWEET field)
2) I hate his positioning... to me, 1st baseline extended is a better place to be than 3rd baseline extended:

happy friday everyone

Good point on the positioning. He likely should have "found the ball" first before committing himself to the right side. After he "found the ball" he may have been trying to move quickly towards the center when he slipped.

It was one of the more windy days of the year, maybe he got blown over. I know I had to hold onto our pop up tent a few times to save it.

I thought the field looked slippery too but I'm told that it isn't. More like "the best field I ever played on." Smile

It's a beautiful field and more to come. My son (class of 2010) committed to URI and very excited about the upcoming plans for the field and facilities, as well as the coaching staff.

It is a great field and a joy to be on. The colored plate and base areas being turf as well are a nice touch to the field. It sure beats all greeen.
