Maine kicks off the season with a 4 game sweep of Delaware State. Off to UNLV for a real measuring stick.

Hopefully they can split and ride the bat of Curt Smith who was just the America Easy player of the week

Trimps really started this team off on fire

I hope he can keep it up

Is a split with UNLV a good and or reasonable expectation

They won't split.....they play a 3 game series.

2 out of 3 would be great.
1 out of 3 would be acceptable.

Nice to see them beat a big time quality opponent Ohio State but what in the world are they going to do with their bullpen??

Who is going to move into the closer's role

Just a thought

Lugbauer can pump it in the high 80's low 90's---with Mercurio in house to catch as well as Myckie you may see Lugbauer in the pen---he has already thrown some innings to date--Myckie can bring it

so why not make him the closer since the other kids aren't getting it done. no offense to them bc I know it's early but they need wins. They're playing big time schools but to get an at large bid worst case scenaio of they don't win the conference there going to need 40-45 wins and maybe more

Is there ever a shot for an at-large team out of America East ??

To get the America East bid they need to win the tournament--it is great to see the teams playimg strong out of conference teams to help the RPI but the conference is not there yet---I see no second teams getting into the NCAA event at seasons end

There hoops teams have the same problem

Nice to see Kevin Scanlan from Lincoln-Sudbury HS pitch well in his second outing against Air Force. Nick Serino from Malden Catholic also had a terrific outing against Arizona State for UMass.

Charlie, they were not happy with the games being cancelled. Coach Trimper had even made arrangements to move the games out to Baseball Heaven but no go. The team was very disappointed as were the parents.

This weekend they play a solid Wagner team at the Yankees facility in Staten Island. That should be fun.

I know that they have only so many scheduling options.......but why schedule games in the Northeast so early? Was NY Tech not willing to move the games?

NY Tech was unwilling to move. Arrangements had been made to play at Baseball Heaven Complex (turf fields) but they refused to drive the half hour. For an independant program, stunts like that will make it hard to schedule games. I know for me, it would be a never again deal.

BTW, for fans who did not know the ames were cancelled and showed up....guess who was on the field practicing????

That's total B.S. Coach Merc. Don't they have games scheduled in Orono coming up? If I were Trimper.....I'd tell NY Tech to stay home and try and schedule the extra game with NJIT.

joe miller is defintely gone after this year and he is lighting up every team he faces

is he the early favorite for conference pitcher of the year and how high of a ceiling does this kid have with regards to the draft?

Joe Miller has been terrific so far this year. He will definitely be back next year to lead the staff since he is only a soph. Conference play starts up next week so lets hang on. Freshman Kevin Scanlon has also thrown very well but has been the hard luck guy with run support.

Joe has great upside and a fresh arm since he threw very few arms as a freshamn last year.

Season 14-18-1
Conference 3-5

They have soem extremly talented players and a terrific coaching staff but can they turn it around this year or is it to late

They have lost a bunch of tough close fough games but can their bullpen withstand the trials of an America East conference opponenets in the tournament

It seems their top pitchers can but once in bullpen it is a minefield

No offense

I really hope they can turn it around. Do you folks think they can?

There is still a lot of time- anything can happen when some teams have already played 4 more conference games than the others---big two weeks coming up---I think it is wide open since there seems to be no team that is standing out above the others---very balanced conferecne with some very exciting baseball

how many games does maine have to win in their next 2 conference series ?

How can they be second inn hitting and third in pitchign respectively in the league yet be in last in the standings? Coach Trimper does a phenomenal job and I was just wondering how many teams even get into the playoffs for the america east tourney and after alsmot a full season does maine have a realistic shot at winning the tourney ??
