Posted this earlier in the General section, but thought I'd try it here...Has anyone had the pleasure of knowing or meeting Mr. Joe Lewis Sr. He was a major league scout for 60 years, his son coached at the Cape and he is 102 years old and still sharp as a tack. Just wondering if anyone knows him.

I have had the pleasure. He is my grand dad. He has been in baseball in some form or faashion for 73 years. His son, my dad, Joe Lewis Jr. Did coach Chatham in the Cape League from 1963 to 1969. He coached Thurman Munson there in 1967, the year they won the whole thing. Joe Jr. also was all american pitcher at Duke in 1952 and 1953. Played in the Tiger minor leagues from 1953 to 1957. After the Cape he managed for the Tigers in the minors from 1970-1981. Then he scouted for the Tigers until his death in 1996. I just wrote and published his biography. Joe Sr. is mentioned also. The book can be seen at LuLu.com. In the search area type Skippy Lewis and it will come up.

Skip Lewis was a great man. He signed me to a minor league contract after the Blue Jays released me (1982). Great rivaly between Durfee High (Fall River) where Skip was coach, and Somerset High, where I went, and was coached by Jim Sullivan. Another great Coach and human being.

Joe was recently honored in Las Vegas for his years of service in baseball scouting. In sixty plus years I'm sure he has seen it all!!!
