I had the opportunity to watch several games in the Little East tournament the past few days. I was amazed at how hard all of the teams in the tournament played. It was great baseball.

Eastern Connecticut State ended up beating Keene State today for the championship. Keene needed to beat ECSU twice to win the tournament and an automatic berth to the NCAA D-III tournament. Keene won game one and was tied in game two in the ninth inning. ECSU scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to win 4-3. Keene never gave up and played hard all day. My hats go off to them. They have a very good program.

The best part, though, was watching the games with my son. He is unfortunately recovering from knee surgery and has more time to spend with Dad (fortunately for me). It was a lot of fun.

Thanks TRhit. I hope Keene States gets an at-large bid. They sure played like a team that belongs in the NCAA tourney. They handed Eastern their first loss to a conference opponent this year.

There is a very interesting story about Eastern's shortstop, Melvin Castillo. He is a 22 year-old freshman. He is from the Dominican Republic and is the youngest of 11 children. He is the only one in his family in the U.S. He graduated from high school in Danbury, CT in 2003. He spent the past three years working to save money to attend college. Coach Holowaty helped him to get into Eastern because he saw this young man as someone who could not only play baseball, but would also work hard to achieve his educational goals. Castillo is studying to be an accountant and hopes to be able to help his family when he gets his degree.

Keene State is in the NCAA tournament, along with Eastern Connecticut State in the Harwich, MA Regional. There should be some excellent games in this bracket.
