In a previous post someone questioned why the GSBA Showcase League uses wood instead of metal. Valid question, the answer is that the majority of college coaches, Division I, Division II, and Division III who we deal with perfer it to metal. One coach stated "There is nothing I can't scout about a hitter or pitcher when a wood bat is used instead of a metal bat" another said "I perfer the wood because the metal provides room for error for the batters, you can hit one out of the park off the handle with a metal bat and with a wood bat you would just need another bat". So to answer this question why we use wood vs. metal because it is what college coaches that we work with perfer, and that is who we cater to.

My son's team played mostly wood bat this past summer and also this fall in the Mid-Atlantic area. A parent asked why it matters until a kid is a pro prospect since colleges hit with metal. The response was similar to GSBA's.
