My son just started playing for Coach Sottolano. He had no problems when they played this fall.

If I remember correctly, all new cadets selected a sport during Beast. Of course the baseball players selected baseball (easy choice, huh?). What did they do? I don't recall ever being told. I remember my son talking about throwing. I don't remember hearing about actual games/scrimmages being played.

And I'm not sure about Fall practice. My son did go to the field just about every day. During the month of September they played games with area colleges on Sunday.

They have officially started their practice. Have you gone to goarmysports.com to see their game schedule? They're scheduled to play in FL (I'm not sure where exactly) during their spring break.

Have you already been accepted to WP? Are you a recruit? I know there are some NCAA rules, but am not familiar with them so I'm afraid of saying too much.

Leftymom,,, I am a parent of a HS Senior here in Florida, he has accepted his appointment and reports 6/28! He is a middle infielder and just trying to get a feel for what they do in the fall. I will check out the game schedule as well!

Any info you have that you think would be helpful would be appreciated!

You son is going to play for one fine gentleman in Head Coach Sottolano.

My son played for his Assistant, Coach Hamburg when he was at New Mexico State, another fine gentleman

You can relax --your son is with some fine men!!!

BlackKnight2008, Great to have you aboard, Army is the best, and I am speaking from some knowledge. My son played third this past year. I hope you get this, I did not see this up on the board until now. Several points for you:

1. Coach S. (as TR said) is a fine coach, has great expectation and goals. He loves the academy and he loves the players.
2. Army is moving upward. Last year they took some hits. Fielding one senior, one junior and the rest sophs and freshs. They had just lost approx 6 senior starters the year before.
3. We had a very, very good group of Freshman come in this year. Look for Leftymom's son to do well this year, another Tennessee boy. I also heard from up there, that your son is part of another very good recruiting class.
4. At Beast, as leftymom said, it is informal practice, but a great relief from the other duties. It also is a great chance to get to know the other players.
5. One thing to remember, the academy is alot of work, duties, school and baseball. Duties always first, school work is always second and baseball is third. I think that is why baseball is so much fun up there.
6. Coach S. is trying to expand the games, especially early on. They will be going to Texas this weekend. Which I know, Leftymom is looking forward to.
7. Finally, the parent network is excellent. If you need any help or have questions they will respond.
8. The team goes to Florida every year, they get to work out at the Yankee stadium in Tampa, it is a great trip. They are playing 8 games, I think, including Florida.

Again, welcome aboard....your son will be a part of history.
